Episode 30 - Closing address by the Defence
Wow-this podcast has been incredible. Isla Traquair has done such sterling work and it’s been a compelling and fascinating listen. Thank you! This isn’t a criticism of the podcast, far from it, but once again Isla has shone a light on the misogyny that sadly persists: the defence have portrayed the victim, Dr Brenda Page, as a liar, as well as all the other female witnesses, and for being promiscuous, when there is absolutely no basis for either suggestion. Couldn't the woman be allowed to have a social life? It seems to me that if she were feeling vulnerable post-divorce, that organised social events would be ideal because the parameters were agreed before hand, and having an enjoyable evening of conversation would be a great help in improving confidence and morale. Let’s not forget this is the era of the Yorkshire Ripper (who I believe may have killed women in Scotland) and so the added security of organised meetings would be an additional safety measure, I’d have thought. In addition, the defence just don’t seem to understand that people who have been controlled or coerced, will indeed behave in an apparently inconsistent or, on the surface, an irrational way. For instance, it doesn’t surprise me in the least that Dr Page invited her former husband to a picnic or dinner. In my experience, that would be perfectly plausible, because there is always the hope that the situation can be improved by being civilised. Sadly, anyone who has experienced that behaviour knows that that is a delusional hope, and I dare say that was Dr Page’s experience too. I just can’t wait for the day when we have truly moved on from the misogynistic mores women have had to put up with, and continue to put up with even now. Thanks again for your brilliant podcast!Read full review »

It really is an emotional tale and the personal accounts given by the family and the police team provide such a deep...Read full review »

A truly brilliant podcast. The crime is horrific, but it is told in a very human way, avoiding all the sensational cliches. Isla’s history with the case adds an extra dimension, reassuring the listener that the family are on board with the content. It’s a gripping story and rare to get such...Read full review »

The bad Overbearing music. Annoying at times. Adverts. At the start, the middle and the end. Bonus episodes. Stop it. Just make each episode longer with more content. Just feels like Isla is dragging it out. Repetitive. Yes we know your name Isla Traquair and we know the name of the podcast....Read full review »
