Heroes get remembered, but legends never die
The Sub-Beacon, formerly known as the Weekly Sub-Standard, features great conversations on movies and pop culture. Its three hosts have genuine chemistry. While their commentary is smart and illuminating, its their tangential conversations about life, filled with genuine wit and humor, that make the show so great. Show up for the film criticism, stay for updates on home-remodeling projects, dish washer noise decibals, and the "Reduced Gluttony" diet. The Weekly Sub-Standard, as an offshoot of the Weekly Standard magazine, was in its own small way a proof for that publication's greatness. Even its relatively minor offspring, such as the Weekly Sub-Standard or the Prufrock newsletter, were excellent. No Fredos in TWS's media family. The Weekly Standard's destruction is a genuine tragedy. We are less than we were before Dec. 14. That the Sub-Standard will live on through the Sub-Beacon is very good news — and genuinely hope-inspiring. Thanks for keeping it going.Read full review »

Thank God the boys are back. Podcasting just like in the before-times, our three favorite pop culture observers are here to be dudes and chat. (Sadly Gene Shalit won't be appearing as he was hunted for sport by a deranged billionaire).Read full review »
