3rd Time
For those keeping score, this is the third "premiere" episode of "The Talk Show", a podcast which, true to the description, acts as a director's cut of Daring Fireball, the blog of John Gruber. Gruber, if he could be summed up, might be described as a technology, design, and baseball enthusiast, but really he's just a cool dude to sit down and listen to. To that end, The Talk Show has always been something that makes you the fly on the wall where Gruber has a conversation with someone -- previously Dan Benjamin and now John Moltz. I've always been a big fan of the show, which has inspired to me start my own podcast. Gruber's delivery, quick wit, and vast knowledge make this an all around great listen for those interested in the current state of affairs in technology culture. While he tends to view everything with the lens of how the currently dominating force in tech -- Apple -- is doing, he does a good job rationalizing his claims and opinions. While some may call the move away from 5by5 controversial, the fact is that this seems to be where Gruber really is in his wheelhouse (pun intended). Mike Monteiro, founder of Mule Radio Syndicate, seems to have a similar persona to Gruber's, and the culture at Mule seems to fit the show more. Listening to the first episode helps you understand how excited Gruber is to be a part of the company. This makes the quality really engaging. Moltz also does a great job feeding off the energy. Not to take away from Dan, but it really seems like the new pair is gelling in a great way. I really look forward to this new direction. Before you judge it, try and take a listen for yourself.Read full review »

Doesn't sound real to me. Something is missing that made the show great. Yes, Dan is missing. This is poor.Read full review »

This really did seem all over the place and with zero structure. I'll no doubt listen to a couple more, but if there's no improvement I can't see myself listening to this every week as I did the previous Talk Show. The lack of structure and feeling that this new format has been...Read full review »
