Responsible Food for Thought
Kelly Howell’s Theater of the Mind podcast is something that the “new age” self-help community has needed for a long time – an intelligent forum for airing new and innovative ideas without the hype and mushy sentimentalism that often plagues broadcasts in this genre. Yes, some promotion for her guests takes place, but it is done in a low-key, soft-sell manner. At no time do I hear the dreaded, “But wait, there’s more!” Nor do I feel like I’m stuck in infomercial hell. The people interviewed simply tell their stories, and Kelly facilitates the process skillfully and responsibly through her questions and commentary. Simple, clean, and sound journalism at its best. I’ve been listening to Kelly’s podcasts and BrainSync CDs for over a month now, and I consistently find she addresses the need to do more than just shift one’s thinking into a more positive mode. Repeatedly she refers to “shadow work,” which I take to mean facing one’s inner demons and shadows in order to reclaim one’s personal power. This aspect of self help is too often glossed over or completely ignored. Her interview with James Arthur Ray of "The Secret" DVD includes mention of this, and I cannot applaud her enough for having the honesty and courage to tell this truth plainly and sensibly. Positive thinking only goes so far. In order to change your life you also have to act, and Kelly neither hides nor minimizes this fact. Her CDs and MP3s are wonderful ways to focus on where and how to act, and her podcasts provide further insight into new how traditional ideas about the universe are being challenged every day. But most important, Kelly is a responsible journalist for the self-help/transformative community. In acknowledging the need to face the darkness, resolve past issues and put one’s intentions into action, Kelly serves all her listeners and all the world, stimulating and encouraging true change and healthy growth. Brava, Kelly!Read full review »
