Cool podcast. I wish there were more episodes delving further into Canadian hip hop history.

I learned stuff about the Canadian music industry in this cast and you will too. It’s amazing and heartbreaking at the same time. I couldn’t put it down. Neither will you.

Such a creative way of getting this story approved and out there despite the whiteness of decision makers. This podcast shares how Canada’s cultural institutions need a shake up and how they missed on some of the greatest economic success stories in Canadian music. If you are looking for great...Read full review »

Pleasantly surprised at how in-depth and informative this podcast turned out to be. More please!

Blown away by the detail. Was hooked from beginning to the end

Really impressed with the research done on this podcast. I loved all the Toronto hip hop history brought up (OTA Live! What a blessing that radio show was). I thoroughly enjoyed this. Just wish it was longer!

Best way to learn an in-depth history of the music we love to love. The chapter on feminism blew my mind. Yes yes yes... more of this.

Great content. Would of loved a couple more episodes though.

I enjoyed this podcast, but took off a star because it made no mention of Much Music and Rap City. Arguably Rap City brought Canadian rappers into the living rooms of Canadians/Torontonians...to skip over that was odd.

Drake is what my kids listen too, not so much my taste, so I tuned in because A) I’m from Toronto ( Dream Warriors! Yes!) and B) Hip Hop content in pod casts is few and far between. I was sceptical that CBC could deliver something that wasn’t just a shmaltzy pat on our Canadian backs for being...Read full review »

Harper kills it with the breakdown of everything that went into creating Drake. I don’t like Drake, but you gotta respect the history that led to his rise

...as long as you love hip hop, this podcast is for you. 10 out of 10.

Entire podcast about Toronto hip hop but the host says “toe-Ron-toe”

Love this. Was great to hear the history of Canadian hip hop and also dissect some of the topics that often come up with Rap around Race and Gender issues.

I thoroughly enjoyed the historic and academic substance of this podcast. It was both entertaining and informative. I’d love to hear more on this topic. THANK YOU!

What a stupid idea for a podcast.

This podcast is really well done, with its production, editing, sound quality, content, historical reference, and thought provoking influence. My favorite episode was the one hosted by the female. Really impressed and highly recommended!

Hopeful that the mothership can start waking up to non-owg listeners. This is the type of content I want my tax dollars to go towards!

Where to begin. Who could think this was actually good? After hearing such great things, I am at a complete loss. Very disappointing

I’m a tough critic. This podcast was storytelling at its best - while I lived through many of the moments discussed, as a BIPOC music fan living in a really white suburb, I had limited access to this music, the shows and the culture... with the exception of what made it to the news which was...Read full review »

New favourite podcast. It’s so well researched and produced and made even more lovely by Ty’s soothing voice. Anupa’s episode was also very enjoyable and well done!

Well done. The epilogue really brought the current context home.

The storytelling and representation is amazing. I loved the way you reminded us of how the dots are connected, how one thing caused/forced others to pivot. And of course, I loved how it was underpinned with the topic of Canadian representation—why we don’t do a better job cultivating our local...Read full review »

Enjoyed the podcast ! Not even a fan of HipHop specifically but open to it, love music. For the Epilogue honesty ...car recording ... the proper words I cannot express... I hope the World changes positively!

Grateful for the amazing research, voices and perspectives. So good to hear these stories told by the people who have nurtured and shaped the culture in this city. Love the NIce Guy episode, always learn much from Anupa.

I took the Canadian scene for granted growing up so it’s a refreshing mind-opener to hear about the stories and struggles the pioneers faced while laying the groundwork for what we now enjoy at a flick of a switch, or a swipe on a screen...

I knew nothing about the Toronto hip hop scene but I really enjoyed the first two episodes! Definitely looking forward to more.

This podcast is GOOD AS HELL. I love learning about the context behind the seminal moments I heard about or experienced firsthand as a fan. It’s great to see the artform get its due in this way, especially bc the common sentiment for far too long was that Canadian hip hop was second rate and had...Read full review »

Thank you for doing this! Loved the first episode and can’t wait for more. As somebody who grew up in Scarborough in the 80’s & 90’s it’s great to hear some old tracks and for some of the pioneers of Canadian Hip Hop get some air time and credit. Also for not just making a Drake podcast.

A great history lesson in the rich sounds of Toronto hip hop (could probably go even deeper on this). It would be interesting to hear about how Kardi’s guitar smash both appropriated and subverted the guitar smashing of classic rock acts like The Who or how pre-rock African American guitarists...Read full review »

Just whipped right through the first one - a great host, lots of detailed research and history and beautifully paints a sometimes painful and sometimes joyous picture of the city. Already know this will be one of my summer favs.
