Original, fun, and brilliant. A new fave for 2024
Imagine if Sufjan Stevens created a podcast about the intricate web of 6th-century Byzantine society. That's how I describe this captivating podcast from the creative mind of host and producer Christine Laskowski. With her amazing songs, clever sonic flourishes, and deeply researched tales, she delves into one of history's greatest love stories. I learned a lot listening to this show, including how the wealthy competed with political power for influence in Constantinople, how children were taught about slavery in the 6th century, and the origins of the modern concept of "Goth" (there's even a catchy song about it in one episode that will stick in your head all day!). This podcast is one of my favorite discoveries of 2024, and I find myself eagerly hoping for new episodes all the time. A new podcasting star is born!Read full review »
