Good podcast, if the feminism and liberal aspects were left out it would be 100% better. A lot of us listen to podcasts like this to get away from that garbage.

Fun podcast sharing people’s love for things against the orthodoxy , entertaining host

Antony is a great host and so are his guests. Most of the shows/movies/games/books they’ve picked made me want to revisit them.

I've found my favorite new podcast. A fresh look at movies, TV and music that was never liked by the majority. A smart and entertaining discussion on the merits panned and maligned pop culture content.

I can't even begin to list the number of amazing things I've discovered thanks to Antony and his guests. Whether because of poor word of mouth or just having missed them entirely, tons of music and movies have been filling my queue for months thanks to this show. Hell, even the cricket episode...Read full review »

Johnson does a great job of structuring a conversation with a guest who is passionate about something that makes most of us feel ambivalent. It could be a semi-forgotten bit of ’80’s urban fantasy (“Big Trouble in Little China”) or a much broader concept (the sport of cricket), but the show...Read full review »

Found this through Scott Kurtz. Great podcast. Just the sort of thing fanboys/girls should listen to.

It's made me dig out a few bits and peices I'd written off. Nothing however will get me to watch Voyager again though. :D

Enjoy listening to this but sometimes the lack of research evident in both host and guest can be infuriating- real "shout at the radio" stuff, but I would rather it provoked than had no real impact. Worth a listen.

Great host & engaging guests wrap engrossing conversation around the ‘best worst’ of pop culture. The defence of Attack of the Clones is probably the highlight so far, with a truly committed supporter of the maligned film. Be prepared to revisit some best forgotten music, movies and TV shows…

I found this while looking for something else and am I ever glad I did! I love listening to people talk and justify their love for things that most of us turn our nose up at and Antony makes a great host, he eases the conversation forward and keeps things flowing very well. My only wish though is...Read full review »

Antony Johnston and his guests are extremely engaging, giving great defenses of movies, books and people that most of the world hates. Listen to an episode about something you’ve read or watched and then you’ll want to listen to everything else.
MattOK151 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 12/18/15
This podcast isn't unjustly maligned, it's grossly underrated! In a comfortably casual, conversational kind of style, Antony helps his guests inform the audience both what the subject at hand is and why it is (or actually isn't) unjustly maligned. Antony is very good at keeping the dialogue...Read full review »

Very much enjoy both the host, the guests, and the topics. Thanks for defending the pop culture I loved growing up!

I too like Tron and Attack of the Clones, so this is perfect for me.

I've listened to a few episodes and it's quickly become one of my favorite podcasts. Great topics and fun, engaging guests.

Lots of fun - basically people defending various oddball things they like ... Some which I loved (Gremlins 2, Hudson Hawk) and others which I... ahem... didn't (Star Wars prequels). Listening to enthusiasm is always fun.

I’ve listened to all of this podcast’s episodes because it’s consistently interesting - half the time I’m not familiar with the source material, but host Antony and the interviewees manage to engagingly describe the misunderstood appeal of whatever topic is under discussion and riff on that into...Read full review »

People come on to the show and defend what others hate in the terms of pop culture. A brilliant theme and well executed and has something for everyone.

Amazed that I can listen to someone defend something I dismiss and actually feel sympathetic to it. Great show.

Although part of the incomparable stable from the U.S., British host Anthony gives it real class interviewing people about their pet nerdy likes. They are very passionate about their "guilty pleasures" & he is totally sympathetic & well researched that a few episodes have won me over to their...Read full review »

It's a way to explore things that many of us didn't like, a few of us do, and a chance to look at some of these things from a different perspective. If it's a movie/series/book/whatever that we didn't like, we have the opportunity replied-examine it and either change our opinion or become even...Read full review »

I found this show through the Surviving Creativity podcast and it has become one of my weekly must-listen-to's. I've already found myself rooting for the 'maligned' subject several times (Hudson Hawk, Last Action Hero, Doctor Who 1996 Movie) and even when it's something I'm not familiar with the...Read full review »

I started listening to this podcast and I've really enjoyed it. Every guest gives a reasoned argument for what they love and even where it's problematic. Lots of fun and the outtakes at the end are the icing on the cake

I enjoy the premise of this show, having intelligent people who love pop culture things that are generally despised explain *why* they feel that way. I haven’t (yet?) finished listening to an episode loving something that I hated when I pressed Play, but I’ve usually had to agree that at least...Read full review »

We all have things only we love and feel a need to defend, but I never thought it would be so much fun listening to other people do it on a podcast. These episodes are funny and almost surprisingly thoughtful. Definitely worth a listen!

Enjoyed the first episode about SG1, format sounds like a good idea. I imagine the choices of topic will divide geekdom. Tron (Wheaton) episode 4 was another great one. Pretty much like sitting around listening to geeks talk about things they love.

This podcast is such a good idea it pisses me off that I didn’t think of it. I’m tempted to give it only four stars out of blatant envy, but I will rise above such pettiness and give it the rating it deserves.

So I like learning about stuff I don't really know much about. You probably do too. This podcast is all about learning about things you probably don't really know much about. But further than just that, exploring *why* these things merit be better known about. So that's win-win in my book, and...Read full review »

Based on the first two episodes, a smart, listenable show that gets the balance right between funny observations and digging deeper into the importance of these silly things we love. Looking forward to future instalments.

I'm not usually a fan of "culture" podcasts, they tend to run more like recommendations than actual discussion. But this podcast is different: this is a discussion of WHY things are meaningful and liked (or disliked) and as such more a discussion about people than the products themselves. Even if...Read full review »

With only two episodes under its belt, Unjustly Maligned is quickly becoming one of my favorite podcasts! Having a fan of a generally disliked or ignored piece of culture make a argument for it's worth is a great concept. This is a neat concept. Whether you are a fan of the particular show/film/etc being discussed or haven't even heard of it I think it's always cool to hear someone talk passionately about something they like - but especially so if it's something you love it too.

There are loads of pop culture podcasts, but this is for unpopular culture. It's well produced and a cool way to gain exposure to things you probably missed the first time around.
