Would you do the Fall Out Boy version?

I really wanted to like this podcast. I think it’s a great premise. I started with the Peyton Place episode, and the guest is ridiculous. She says, “You know” every 3 words. It is impossible to listen to.

Fab show - cool and quirky. Quick note that the movie Grease has a great Doris Day scene and is referenced in the song sung in the Pink Ladies’ sleepover by Rizzo.

I know of Billy Joel and of this song, “We didn’t start the fire”, but it was very clever of the hosts to seize upon the lyrics to describe in detail the history lesson Mr.Joel was giving us. I really enjoy the podcasts, and will try to go through all of them. Keep up the great work. Highly...Read full review »

I tuned in to this pod sometime in covid curfew here in Oman in my quick walks before we were locked up for the night. I think I discovered it about 15 episodes in, so went back & diligently listened then just got hooked. I actually bought the vinyl album this was on. Storm Front, I think it...Read full review »

I can’t take anymore of the total liberal bias of the co-host Katie. The final straw for me was the Bernie Goetz episode where she proclaims her disgust for people who possess legally owned firearms for self defense. She’s obviously lived a comfy white privileged life and has never been the...Read full review »

“Conveniently he gets Alzheimer's” - If you have ever known someone or had a family member who has had Alzheimer’s you would never be so foolish and callous and in this case hateful to say such a thing. Shame on youRead full review »

Listened from the start and have enjoyed every episode. Hosts are spot on.

Being a history teacher and constantly playing this song to my classes when doing the USA 20th century gcse unit, telling them it’s the soundtrack to the course anyway - meant that this pod was a dream come true!!

Go to the website via Apple links and there is no technical support. I haven’t been able to download the most recent episode since it became available on Thursday for subscribers. I’m a subscriber…but not anymore if I can’t even reach out and say, “Hi, can you help me with this episode?”

Great concept and well executed. Listen to most episodes although not all are to my taste based on the subject matter, the podcast remains a good listen

Hosts trying too hard. Not funny even though they try. Ads that constantly repeat on loop is enough to turn off and listen elsewhere.
Suuzebee via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 01/27/23
I understand the need for ads. But these just cut in halfway through a sentence. Halfway though a WORD and then it’s often the same 30 second ad repeated 4 times in a row. Sadly it makes the show unlistenable, which is a shame.
HereBeMonsters via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 01/24/23
Love the concept and content - it’s just the commercial that are driving me batty. They’re endless and repetitive. Will keep listening though - ❤️ Billy

Great concept and well researched. Guests offer really valuable context and background Unfortunately since about the Stalin episode the audio quality has great deteriorated and ad randomly interrupt the conversation, often multiple times in a row. I have followed We Didn’t Start the Fire from day one. Now I must bid a farewell to it. I refuse to pay to listen to a podcast that I have listened to for free for so long. You’ve made plenty off of adverts. Killing a wonderful thing.

Interesting premise for a show, mini history of each lyric to Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire." The problem with the show is how obnixious the female host is. Lose the kazoo , I'm guessing her idea, stupid, obnixious and annoying. Zero self-awareness. She compared...Read full review »

The idea seemed like a silly idea but Katie and Tom pulled it off, an excellent podcast. A variety of interesting topics looked at in a very entertaining and considerate way. If you like history as remembered by Billy Joel it’s for you.

I’m a huge fan of Katie Puckrik and came for her (shout out to her legendary fragrance reviews), and I stayed for the amazing slices of history in each episode. The history of this podcast and the song have drawn me in since we studied it for history in 8th grade. I was so excited to find this podcast and really enjoy it! Constant unfounded comparisons to trump instead of talking about the topic on hand…. He talks like an idiot but made millions of peoples lives better to compare him to some of these animals is absolutely ridiculous!!

I was really excited to hear their take on the subjects. Within a few episodes I realized the lady hates at least half of America. Nope.

Edit: Katie’s American bias is just so over the top in the latest episode on Castro: trying to hammer home this idea that he was manipulating his image, and ergo the only reason anyone could have supported him, ie just propaganda, while demonstrating how she (as she admits from the start!) has...Read full review »

Just started the podcast it’s really good! A lot of trump bashing but it’s their opinion and doesn’t take away from the history being taught! Best part their voices don’t annoy me and I can actually listen! I love the guest speakers!

It’s getting all 5 stars for me! I absolutely love Tom and Katie’s attitude towards all of the vast topics covered. So a lot of people have pointed out the political commentary and opinions that seem out of place. I love this song. Always have, always will. Lots of critics decry it as just a “list” song and whatever, which it is but it’s so much more than that. Very annoying and not ‘quirky or funny’ as you likely believe.

I enjoyed the randomness of the subjects, the only one that I didn’t enjoy was the Sugar Ray Robinson episide and that was due to Steve Bunce’s OTT personality. The others were great.

What a great way to get dollops of history while enjoying Billy Joels music. After each episode i go to you tube and watch the musuc video. But the history is tremendous, totally eclectic but all strung together around the lyrics.

I was a mid/late teenager when the song came out- I didn’t really like it because I didn’t really understand it. This podcast has changed so much!!

Bit size chunks of history whilst on the morning walk with the dog, plus a kazoo based theme tune make this a winner in my opinion. Plus I never knew Donald Trump’s middle name is Jessica!

Love the idea and there is some very diverse subjects covered, it’s broaden my knowledge. Tom is a good host, but Katie is annoying (sorry) , she needs to let the expert guests speak more.
