Desperately good; can be desperately dodgy
Pros: Amiable, informative, and a good laugh. Cons: James (mostly) prone to not just putting his foot in his mouth, but ramming it down his gullet. There must be some contract TV historians sign which stipulates they have to make over-enthusiastic and inaccurate assertions just to ensure they can't be taken seriously as professionals. Here's one example (of many): James recently stated emphatically that the Soviet Union did not have a strategic bomber (they did: the four-engined Petlyakov Pe-8) and that they never bombed Berlin (I'm afraid they did: from Aug '41 onwards). Come on, producers, do your job. You need to fact-check him and trim this stuff out of the show. It only undermines the production's credibility.Read full review »
