While this story is far from my own lived experience, I found it incredibly moving and enlightening. I’ve listened to and admired the work of AnaMaria for years. She is so strong, intelligent and an outstanding model for women of my generation. To find out her deep secret makes her all the...Read full review »

I felt like she buried the lede and that she had an important piece of the puzzle as to why he did what he did, and kept it to the very last episode almost as a footnote. If someone gets a settlement from the Catholic Church, that means that they were abused, severely and repeatedly - that’s also...Read full review »

Anna Maria’s voice is steady as ever and yet tells such a personal, powerful, and heart wrenching story. The inclusion of her conversation with her therapist in working through this provides such clarity in breaking through the conflicting feelings and false narratives to get to the truth.

Anna Maria’s courage to tell this story, what can I say. I hate that she wasn’t able to tell this story earlier but understand, as I also a victim. Thank you for sharing and hope you have found peace

I am so glad I listened to this podcast . Anna Maria tell her story in a very intelligent and open minded way. As women we have all no doubt worried about friends or witnessed partner violence . This tale gives hope of better things to come for those who can and do leave violent relationships, ...Read full review »

I miss Anna Marie hosting the current. One of my all time favourites hands down. Who knew she was dealing with such traumatic abuse. To pull off incredible journalism on top of dealing with a tragic relationship at home is truly astounding.

Much credit to Tramonti for telling her story, but she and the woman who seems to be interviewing her sound like they’re on quaaludes more than half the time, and they keep repeating the same phrases. Listening to them, my brain feels like it’s moving in slow motion. I’m not sure what the...Read full review »

As each episode unfolded and it became clear the victim was not going to listen to the advice she’d been given, I couldn’t help but worry about the way this terrible choice might validate a listener considering doing the same (Don’t. They never change and there are no answers. Closure comes from...Read full review »

Anna Maria Tremonti was always a trusted face and voice on CBC and it’s shocking to learn what she once went through at home. I‘m full of admiration that she had the selfless courage to share this horrible, very personal story.

Well told account of how a woman feels in an abusive relationship. Her journey will resonate with many women even if your story differs. I got something out of it having my own issues with family members. Every woman should listen to this. Thank you.

If you love real life and complicated stories told with journalistic integrity, this one is really good. The interviews are thoughtful, the topic is so important for so many people. The juxtaposition of a journalist reporting on domestic violence while also being a victim is such a great reminder...Read full review »

It took guts to share this story in such a public way. Although I have not been a victim of spousal violence I learned a great deal. The most poignant episode for me was episode 6 when Anna Maria mentions a settlement for Pat from the church. She says she always suspected that Pat suffered...Read full review »

I’ve always enjoyed Anna Maria Tremonti’s powerful reporting—this is her at her best. So powerful, strong, and vulnerable. So amazing to hear the self-compassion therapy sessions interspersed.

Nothing screams white woman, rich, privilege more than a washed up ‘journalist’ trying to hang on to her last minutes of famedon by likening her over embellished DA experiences to women stuck for many, many years in very dark and destitute places of suffering and hopelessness. They don’t have the...Read full review »

I feel there needs to be a follow-up episode in this podcast series by an expert in coercive control. Perhaps it could be with Monckton-Smith from Episode 4 or someone like Evan Stark. The term for the strangulation Anna Maria suffered is ‘non-fatal strangulation’. It is now widely recognised a...Read full review »

The level of intimacy in the sharing of this coercive relationship is powerful. AMT is real and sensitive without self pity or drama. Her own voice adds credibility, not that her credibility is in doubt.

This podcast has demonstrated how the abuse of a child by Catholic priests (or by anybody, for that matter) has an immense and lifelong impact on the victim’s spouse, with nightmarish results. Beyond tragic. All pedophiles should be locked away for life and the key thrown away.
