A true gem in a sea of nutrition nonsense
The Wise Traditions podcast is an oasis of truth in a desert of misinformation, half-truths, and outright lies. I'm a professional nutritionist and have been a member of the Weston A. Price Foundation for several years. I look to the WAPF and its founder, Sally Fallon, for sensible information based not only on the latest scientific research, but also on the uncomplicated wisdom of our ancestors and how people ate in bygone generations, long before we were plagued with the host of conditions that affect us now. It's not an exaggeration when I say I learn something new *every time* I listen to her, and the other guests on this show live up to the high standards she's set, whether they're talking about the healing effects of raw milk or setting the record straight about saturated fat. The host of this podcast, Hilda Labrada Gore, asks very good questions to keep the conversations moving and to make sure the listeners benefit from the expertise of the guests. This show and the WAPF are wonderful resources for anyone interested in optimal health and wellbeing, free of snake oil and the latest fads, and also free of zealotry and advice that's impractical to implement in your life. After all, the greatest advice is really no good if you can't actually *do something* with it. So yes, grassfed/pastured meats and organic produce are great, but if you can't afford them, just do the best you can, and as Sally says, "Don't make this into a religion." The multi-episode series on the principles of nourishing traditional diets is a must-listen for anyone who's new to the "real food" world, as well as for those who are old hands.Read full review »
