“I loved Dan’s book and have been enjoying the podcast, with one recent exception: The episode about working less. I agree with the idea but was astonished that neither the guest nor Dan addressed people who work in either hourly jobs or professional pay per service roles such as doctors, nurses or mental health professionals. We can’t just compress our schedules (we already get almost no time with patients, let alone a lunch break) or earmark mornings for creativity. And we can’t eliminate unnecessary meetings because we don’t have them - we are too busy actually working. The irony here is that we are among the most burnt out workers and could really benefit from ideas for shifting work culture , if they took into account the reality of our jobs that is. That you didn’t even acknowledge this speaks to some serious ivory tower myopia. Pity your guest seems to have such limited exposure to those outside of academic or creative professions. His ideas are well meaning but sadly limited.”
