“Hi Dan, usually love your stuff. I wanted to give feedback listening to this white man tell us that his opinions in your episode abo work life balance. I must say, though I personally disagree with his personal motivation for success (basically all financial at their core), I agreed with some of his points and found most of his use of the data to be accurate.
I was however disappointed in the last point around population change and think you could have pushed back on that. He argues that there will be less young people than old and the biggest impact of this is a negative effect on economic growth. His proposed solution is to support systems that will encourage young people to have more children. I was disappointed about the lack of discussion on the role of having better immigration policies, especially since so many people are being displaced by climate change. Our focus should not be increasing the population of these “developed nations” but to better support immigration and resettlement and the “ratio of working to elderly people” is an argument to support this, even if a capitalist can’t find it in their humanity to support this. Frankly, I am of the opinion that these arguments, being masked as economic arguments, are actually racist at their core and are based on the interest of maintaining a certain ethnic make up of the population, because if they weren’t, the first data you would quote is how other countries have looked at population decline (Canada, Singapore).”
