Description
Yogagurukula Series | Dr. Vijaya Manja is a one-of-a-kind teacher of ashtanga yoga, philosophy, chanting, and so much more. He lives and teaches in his hometown of Pandeshwara, in the South of India, where he welcomes students from across the world in his traditional school of yoga, the Yogagurukula. In this episode, Dr. Vijaya talks about his personal journey – studying in a traditional school in the Sringeri forest, going to Mysore to study philosophy and Sanskrit, and finding ashtanga yoga. He goes into how he was called to teach, his perspective on the role of a teacher, and why he chose to teach in a traditional gurukula system. He also touches on how he multitasks the different roles in his life – yoga practitioner, husband, father, son, teacher, and village priest – and on what it is like to share his life with students 24/7 in such close proximity. Visit the gurukula's website at www.yogagurukula.in to learn more about the school and Dr. Vijaya Manja.
