I think it needs more content to make it worth the premium but good altogether The Top Gear magazine podcast is a better alternative

I’ve listened to every episode twice. About to start again from the beginning. Why? I don’t know… is it the great writing? Is it the cheerful host? Is it plain ol’ great topics and insights? It’s the secret sauce of auto journalism in the audio form. 👏👏👏

I unsubscribed from this podcast because I can’t stand Malcolm Gladwell. If buying a Volvo would make him go away, I’d be at the dealer in a New York minute. Haha.

Was a R&T kid reading the magazine religious (still a subscriber). Best car pod out there

Eddie is boring and predictable.

For starters putting a podcast behind a paywall goes against the idea of a podcasts but that’s a larger philosophical debate. The host’s opinions are just kinda pretentious and uninteresting. He has a voice for the written word. Even when he’s excited about something his tone doesn’t really...Read full review »

I loved this show, it is pretty funny to listen to and I thought that it was amazing. I was just wondering when the new episodes come out?

Just the right amount of history and tech, excellent guest lineup and stellar writing. Bonus points for the GTI episode! Keep up the great work and keep ‘em coming!

I realized this was so good when I got to the end and realized no more to listen to. This is really good.

Season 1 can’t already be over. Where are my new episodes!!!

I am *not* a car person yet I still want to make smart purchases. This is educational with a point of view which helps sort through all the features and mechanics of today’s car offerings. I enjoyed the family car episode. Next up should be “what is the best car for your new teenage driver”!

It’s all about the story and Eddie does an exceptional job. He provides just the right amount of historical context and personal anecdotes to keep the topics interesting. My 78 year old car indifferent mother was enthralled by the moon rover and minivan episodes. My favorite was the M5 pod. Thank...Read full review »

I’m not a car fanatic, but this hits that sweet spot of interesting and informative. The host does a beautiful job of telling the story of the car involved against the background of wider trends in driving. The family car shopping episode was an excellent example of this. If you are a casual top...Read full review »

Love what Alterman has brought to podcasts and Pushkin in particular. Learning something every time. And best theme music out there!

You keep comparing the GTI to the GTO without ever referencing the iconic 1984 GTI commerical that covers the Beach Boys "Little GTO" in German. How did you whiff on this?Read full review »

Cautionary Tales introduced me to “Corvair” and I’m hooked. Masterful, educational and entertaining.
JP of W & U via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 06/22/22
Well researched and well produced. Unfortunately the show cratered during the Corvair episode when it veered wildly into a libertarian ditch. “It’s not the car! It’s the driver!” Right. Because had not Ralph Nader insisted on safer cars, the general public today would all be ready for LeMans....Read full review »

You do not need to be a car fanatic to love this show. Eddie has a an easygoing conversational style. It’s like listening to a friend wax poetic about America’s love affair with cars, how the automobile impacts who we are, and just really entertaining informative - and funny - stories. I can’t...Read full review »

The Corvair episode was injected into the feed for another Pushkin show. The episode was so bad that I am taking a moment to search for the show and review it. The supposition is that car safety makes people drive worse. True, there is a well known principle that sometimes making things feel...Read full review »

The Corvair episode was hot garbage. To acknowledge the truth of deaths per 100,000 nearly being cut in half by safety measures that the host seems to despise and then disregard that truth out of hand because the number of deaths is the same from the 60’s then and go on to blame bad drivers (lack...Read full review »

Blaming Nader for creating a less skilled driver is super, super weak.

I just heard the Covair episode and I think the logic is flawed. 40,000 deaths du car accidents are a result of drivers negligence? The conclusion is that because a few buyers didn’t know how to drive the Covair that completely changed the way cars are made? How where this buyers supposed to...Read full review »

Well done podcast. Informative, really liked the show on the corvair. My father has one and hoping to get it back on the road after the podcast.
Tkeamay via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 06/10/22
Just listened to the Corvair episode and it sounded like the ramblings of an hard headed old man. All Eddie did was moan and groan about how airbags and other modern safety features are unnecessary and blames safety standards on GMs downward spiral. You could at least elaborate on ways to improve...Read full review »

Listened to the Jeep episode and that’s where I’ll stop. Eddie mentions “the $80,000 price tag” a half dozen times as if that’s the going price for all wranglers. Too much jibber jabber about the 392 and not enough about the lower-priced models which constitute the vast majority of wranglers on...Read full review »

I’m not that into cars, and more into history, and I’m really enjoying this podcast! Both episodes that I’ve listened to so far (Jeep and BMW) have helped me see aspects of American life in a new light, and left me thinking — and interested in hearing more! There probably is enough stuff about...Read full review »

A podcast should never think it is more important than the topic it uses as an excuse to talk about itself.

There’s nothing better than Eddie’s prose, passion, and pithy humor combined with his second-to-none knowledge about cars. LOVE THIS!

Totally new take on cars. The writing is great with colorful analogies. The sound design is cinematic and puts you in the drivers seat. Can’t wait to hear more!

He goes on and on about the essence and inspiration of a car, but really tells us nothing of substance.

Listened to the BMW M5 episode and it was meh. I mean, it’s a guy talking about a car and what he likes about it. Probably could have been a 5-minute episode and then I might have given 3 stars. I get it; the older low-tech car makes you more involved (which translates to more fun to drive) than...Read full review »

The M5 episode is absolutely riveting, somehow you have achieved making me feel like I’m right there in the backseat along with Eddie and Malcolm - seemingly an impossible feat in a podcast form.
