This show is underrated simply bc if nothing else just from listening you learn so much about the chess world including different books, strategies, and ways to learn and what the community is like and how it feels to go to a tournament. If feels good to hear the stories of how people may have...Read full review »

If you are an adult trying to improve at Chess then this podcast is essential listening. It speaks to a wide range of adults about their journey in chess, including tips, resources used and general ways they went about their learning. Excellent presented by a fellow adult improver who asks all...Read full review »

Bruce makes so much sense. I recently just got into chess at 45. I’m not delusional but I am so sick of the “you can’t do it culture.” I’d rather listen to reasons how you can than reasons why you can’t. I’m divorced. No kids. Down time at work. I can retire in 8 yrs. I’m inching forward in my 12...Read full review »

I have jumped back into playing chess as an adult improver and I love to listen to this podcast to hear how people approach improving. Kevin is a really good interviewer and I love the variety of guests. It is also helpful to hear the books or online resources that people use. This podcast is...Read full review »

I love this show! As an adult trying to improve at chess this show is full of great advice and tips on how to improve. I also find other people sharing the highs and lows of their own personal chess journeys very inspiring. Dr Scull is so funny, I am always entertained by his witty comments.

Kevin is a great interviewer, and for someone like me who recently came back to chess, it's inspiring to hear his guests' stories. I met Kevin this week at the North American Open in Las Vegas and he was also super friendly and gracious (in spite of having just let a win slip away)....Read full review »

Adult improvement episodes were my favorite part of the perpetual chess podcast, so needless to say, when I discovered chess journeys I was ecstatic. Kevin, the host, solely interviews players I myself can better relate to and does so in an engaging and inquisitive manner. Always look forward...Read full review »

Plenty of insights and always fun to listen to. I like it better than the Perpetual Chess podcast, which I also like though. This pod is more about the real people playing and improving, just like you and me. Thank you so much!

I learn many tips from his podcasts. Down to earth and very applicable to us beginners that have started to see the fun and challenge in this game.

IMO this is the best chess podcast that caters for adult improvers. By miles. There’s no nonsense about the best known chess players like Magnus etc whose style of play has zero relevance to us mere mortals. Instead this podcast focuses on “average Joes” who play at a level we can all understand...Read full review »

I can’t thank Dr. Schull enough for this podcast. He makes chess improvement relatable to the everyday mom/dad working a job and raising a family and trying to continue improving at chess. I appreciate how his guests range is skill from 1000-2000. Keep up the great work!

I look forward to this podcast each week. Adult improvement is such a tantalising but vague goal and this podcast highlights different approaches, lets me know that it’s not completely weird to obsess about chess and also that it’s pretty normal to work hard at chess but still lose horribly....Read full review »

Thank you so much for this broadcast. I am an at-school chess player and although we have a chess set in the house my games are very basic and I don’t have a rank. I love the different perspectives that Dr. Scull gets each week. One week it’s IM elect Tatev Abrahamyan or WGM Jen Shahade the next week it’s a computer programmer that has just played in their first OTB tournament. Like I said in the title, keep ‘em coming! -NM Craig C.

I think it’s tough to get started in chess. There are lots of wrong turns to take. This podcast has helped steer me in the right directions. It’s also just a good way to get to know the game and the people in it. Thank you!

I enjoy this podcast, my only qualm is I wish there was more of a structure. Sometimes the conversations are all over the place and topic of improvement is barely touched upon.

I've voraciously consumed the entire back catalog of Ben Johnson's Perpetual Chess podcast, which is all great. And Kevin—on Chess Journeys—has interviewed some of the same people.
