This us one of the best podcasts I’ve ever had the pleasure to listen to. I didn’t know of Dorothy before this. Such a well told and explored story of her short life.

Thank you for the excellent coverage & scope of this true story. I was a model & actress in NYC when this story broke & was so saddened as well as shocked by it. I knew that this career was temporary for me as I did not like it much. Fortunately I had a college degree & other...Read full review »

It deserves less stars, but I gave it at least 3 for Dorothy’s story (even though she deserves more stars). I do not like how this story is told! It makes it sound cheesy. I don’t think they did this story or Dorothy justice. I am on the 4th episode and will try and finish it. I just really...Read full review »

Had never heard this story at all & this was an interesting way to listen to it. Really enjoyed the story telling format of this podcast rather than listening to it reportage style. This of course does mean the storytelling aspect means it may not be for people who prefer just the facts laid...Read full review »

This is a well written podcast, but I couldn’t get past episode four because the person voicing Ryan has such a grating voice. I understand it’s supposed to sound probably sleazy and suspicious, but it did not work for me.

This is one of the best executed podcasts ever!

Depicts Dorothy in a brilliant light, making us really understand her life through her eyes. Absolutely love it and was completely emerged every episode.

So well done. If you listen to crime podcasts, this shouldn’t be missed.
Rosebud25 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 09/13/22
I love a good crime podcast but this one is other level! The details, the characterizations, all of the little insights into the players. And Josh Lucas is TOO good. 🌟

When I realized this was more of a narrative/story telling rather than “just the facts,” I didn’t think I’d like it…but I was enthralled from the beginning. Josh Lucas is excellent! Story so tragic and the many opportunities where Dorothy may have been spared.

It’s been awhile since a podcast has caught my attention like this. I could not stop listening. Her story is so tragic. I was so emotionally invested…crying by the end of the 6th episode.

Very well done, I was completely entranced. I kept hoping it wouldn’t really end with her tragic, untimely death. Great podcast.
annietintle via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 04/15/22
Josh narrates this so well. I feel like Im right there in 1978-1980. Well done to the team who put this together. An excellent podcast. By far the best one on Dorothy and Paul, and gave me info I didn’t know.

Will make anyone with naive, sweet daughters fearful of letting them leave the house. So very sad. Female interviewer in last episode could be better.

Two very great stories- But I wish they had not piggyback the murder from 100 years ago onto this series it would’ve been so much better as to standalone murderous families

Initially, I believed this was going to be about Marilyn Monroe. I was pleased that it wasn’t. I had never heard of Dorothy. Of course I’m not too knowledgeable about recent or past playmates. It’s not typically my area of interest. However, I found her story to be inspiring yet, incredibly...Read full review »

Must true crime focuses too much a the ‘bad guy’. This one did a good job at highlight the victim, told her story.

I was in high school when Dorothy was murdered, and I remember the story by Vincent Canby in the NYT titled Star 80, that spawned the movie with Eric Roberts and was stunned by the gruesome details and the sheer volume of people who failed her at every turn; so I felt this podcast would be a...Read full review »

Meh. Good writing and interesting subject manner but the style leaves much to be desired. Listened more like a soft core porn than a murder documentary. Not my cup of tea.

This podcast is amazing! The storytelling really brings this tragedy to life and is narrated so masterfully I felt like I was witnessing the events as they unfolded. Each episode shows Dorothy’s personality and makes the tragedy even more profound.

This is not a Star 80 retread. For any True Crime Dorothy Stratten aficionados there’s lots of new information. Did you know it was Paul Snider who created the original Chippendale male dancers only to have it stolen from him because he didn’t get a contract? I’m thinking maybe Snider is a...Read full review »

So I’m still just on the first episode and I feel like both narrators are in a speed talking competition. Why why why talk so fast. I don’t think I’m going to finish the series.
JJmonarch via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 09/07/21
Congratulations on an exceptional, compelling and outstanding podcast. Such an incredible and sad story of a talented and beautiful soul with the possibility of a wonderful and rewarding life ahead of her, cut so horrifically and prematurely short.
zoebuddha via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 09/05/21
Sounds like a good story but I couldn’t finish listening to it because all I could hear was the Home Depot commercial music in the back of my mind.

This is a captivating story, coming from someone who was not born until the 90s. That being said, I feel that at the end of the episode, resources and info should be provided regarding domestic and financial abuse. The CBS podcast series “Cold” about Susan Powell has a great example. The two men,...Read full review »

I’ve listened for 10 minutes and I love this already. The story however is heartbreaking 💔 Poor Dorothy

Overly pedantic tripe. Writing is what you’d expect from a melodramatic high school student. Numerous errors including watching a NY sunset while it starts snowing…it’s always cloudy while snowing. Paul’s car changes back and forth between different Datsun models throughout the story. Such...Read full review »

I am nervous about continuing past Ep. 4. The murder of future star. We know what’s going to happen with that pimp she married. Plus you have talented and beautiful adults making questionable decisions, living the high life and dressed like toddlers and babies. A recipe for Disaster.

Love these 6 episode Wondery productions. They did such a good job with this story absolutely loved it and was interested the entire time

While the story is compelling, this is exactly what this podcast is — a (mostly) fictionalized story. The hosts are overly dramatic to the point of excess, and words are routinely put into characters’ mouths. Wondery should have included a disclaimer about the fictionalization/dramatization of...Read full review »

Such a tragic story and so well done. Enjoyed the narration by Josh, his voice added to the podcast as he’s easy to listen to with just the right cadence. I was familiar with Dorothy’s story but the detail provided here really tells the complete story

Well scripted. First few episodes were a bit boring but the story touches you at the end. However, the narrative doesn’t do justice to the underlying psychological issues possessed by the characters. Josh and Tracy have done it again. I always search for Wondery shows to listen to... because it swoops me away from the present and into a whole new fantasy world.
