“It’s a affirming podcast if you want to challenge white-Eurocentric beauty standards and diet culture. However, they fail to prep for podcasts in terms of research/education, are white-female centric, and are SUPER TikTok obsessed, often referencing influencers that most of us have never heard of. They disappointingly, don’t seem to research topics, which has led to at least four instances of stating—and never correcting—misinformation. For example, they mentioned Congress’s inquiries with TikTok (which they’ve hinted at since 2019). However, they spread misinformation that could have been prevented by reading just on NPR or NYT or CNN or heck even Fox News article (spoiler it’s about international security not influencers). It was irresponsible and could have been a great chance to discuss how social media empires can be forced share user data with their company’s home governments and how that has been used in legal and criminal cases (January 6 as exhibit A for when it’s used for good). If you’re used to Rethinking Wellness/Food Psych, Food Heaven, or Maintenance Phase, or other anti-diet and white supremacy podcasts, this will leave much to be desired (especially in terms of racial and socioeconomic diversity, intersectionality, and depth). It’s more the Jersey Shore of substance.”
