The podcast series had a lot of potential, but failed in several areas: - Poor sound quality at best. - Actors recreating the statements of criminals had such low sound quality as to be hard to understand. I get what the effect they wanted to get was, but they went overboard and it detracted from...Read full review »

I had never heard this case. I love podcasts where you get to hear from the people involved in solving the case. Very well told & narrated. A must listen.

Could have been interesting but should have made it a couple episodes and other related things. Or went into more detail, or had more of the interviews. It was detailed only for tiny parts which were repeated and rehashed and repeated and rehashed

Audio quality 😖 Repetitive, literally saying the same parts of story needlessly 😵‍💫 The plot was decent but this was best to a pulp 🤐 First podcast that I found frustrating & annoying to listen to. SHOCKED Wondery selected this, for a payed subscription I thought they had set a higher bar....Read full review »

There are two types of crime podcasts. One honors the victims, tells the story and brings awareness to the case. See True Crime guys or Crime Garage. The other is glorifying the crime, the victim and their families are re-victimized by the telling. This podcast does that. Technically there is a...Read full review »

Got so frustrated wanting to listen to this story but having to sit through all of the shallow and repetitive information didn’t just make me give up, it made me slam my phone down. ‘Two small time screwups- they get together they turn murderous’ OKAY WE GET! Also- constantly labeling this...Read full review »

Don’t know how they stretched this story out to six episodes. The audio on the interviews is awful.
Jumperbean via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 09/25/22
Unfortunately, the pace needs to be picked up & repeating the same information needs to be edited quite a bit.
Wndigirl via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 08/18/22
Great podcast, no reenactments. All actual interviews. Can’t stand the fake re-enactments on podcasts . 🤘 keep it up

I love true crime but this is awful, poorly written trash.
Michael Dominic via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 08/07/22
I made allowances for the redundancy, the unknown “experts,” the dubious connections to other crimes with few similarities in distant locations—but the intrusive background music was nearly unbearable.
pk_024 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 08/01/22
Loved it just repetitive throughout

I’m pretty shocked at the overall mediocre ratings - I thought this was a pretty good poddy. I even thought the dramatised prison testimony was good and that the actor did a top job! I kind of missed the misogynistic undertones others spoke about too… not usually something I’d miss… so I’m...Read full review »

Repeating the same segments every single episode. Absolutely infuriating format to listen to.

Didn’t finish listening to all the episodes. The narrator kept repeating parts of the story over and over.
judew6 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/08/22
Horrible sound, they need better microphones. Super repetitive, I couldn’t figure out if I’d already heard them. Experts contradict each other and for some reason a another podcaster is giving us their opinion. Could’ve been two episodes. Not much content.

I hope there is a follow up with a new family
Shankasauras via Apple Podcasts · Canada · 06/11/22
1. Narrator talks way too fast. He has a nice voice but there are zero pauses for commas and periods, which gets very very annoying. 2. Why wasn’t this 1-2 episodes? It’s the same Thing drug out with one new sentence of info every episode after the first.
Scooooooooooooobbby via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 06/10/22
I really enjoyed this series and found it hard to stop listening it was gripping and I loved the reporting. I also appreciate specific details and facts being repeated at the start of the episode. It helps the listener follow along and recall information. I’d love another podcast similar to this....Read full review »

Repeats same clips over and over. Could have been only a couple episodes with core material.
ballanchain via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 05/30/22
So repetitive I couldn’t take it anymore. Too bad because it was interesting when not telling me the same things over and over.

Literally the same episode over and over. Could have told the whole series in two episodes. Definitely not one of my favs.

Why won’t the app hold my place when I can’t listen to an entire episode in one setting. Fix this, please!!! Otherwise, entertaining and well told.

Needed more of the people that were involved and less of the guy making the podcast.
Bud0121 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 04/03/22

I felt like someone was reading from a poorly written true crime book. I gave up on this after they branched out to the case from the 1800s.

You need to get better experts next time! None of them made sense and just kept repeating their opinion.
Bmajj via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 03/23/22
The story is interesting, But.. why do they keep content?? I had to keep looking to see if I was actually listening to the next episode. It’s very annoying!
Hazel~Nut via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 03/22/22
Honestly this feels like a sympathetic approach to the killers of over twenty women. Stating that the killers mother was “wildly promiscuous” and that this way all her fault for him becoming a sociopathic serial killer. No thanks.
Cydemmanuelle via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 03/09/22
I was so annoyed by the repetitive narrative that I did not finish the last episode. While the story it’s inherently interesting the telling of it brought more pain than pleasure. Definitely quantity over quality. I think weaving other stories into the main story didn’t really work either. Not...Read full review »

Could have made this 2 episodes. Used about 10 to 15 minutes of the same audio every episode and then threw in a short story about the benders. Nothing to binge maybe listen to some other true crime podcast this would have been one episode.
Tholamule via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 03/05/22
Very repetitive, terrible audio, annoying background music that detracts and distracts. I was interested in the story so I tried repeatedly to listen, but finally gave up after ep 2
42jenn via Apple Podcasts · Canada · 03/04/22
It was good, but I heard the same interrogation over and over. I feel like they were just making episodes longer by coming back to the same lines. It gets old. The overall story is interesting without repeating the content.
mistydawn82 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 02/25/22
Such a great story. But just like others have said, terrible podcast design. I feel like you could listen to an actual podcast that reviews this issue in 1 episode. How I made it to episode 3 I’m not sure. But I will not be listening to anymore from this.

The story is really interesting, but they clearly didn’t have enough information to fill 6 episodes. A lot of repetition, particularly with interviews and audio clips. Then, for a few episodes they got really desperate to fill time and shoe-horned in a completely unrelated story about a family...Read full review »

I don’t know who thought this was a good idea to release as is, but it’s extremely redundant. The same recordings played over and over. Also, the random sidetrack story about the Bender family from the 1800s made it even more confusing. They weren’t even related to the main story. Not sure...Read full review »

I am sure the story is interesting when told straight through, but the set up this series is terrible. They keeping repeating information to fill up time. The story is interesting but they definitely didn’t have enough content to fill the season so the runtime is padded with the same audio clips over and over again. Listen to the Small Town Murder episode about this family. They cover everything in a couple of hours.
do i really need a nick via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 02/17/22
With each episode, I thought “I’ve heard this all before.” The content keeps repeating literally the same material over and over again. I’d never heard of Taylor and McCrary but enough is enough. If you’re reading this review, take it from me - listen to the first episode and then stop.

It was good untill you start with the benders i got lost so turned it off

I’m pretty surprised a company actually released this podcast in the form it was released. Terribly organized and beyond repetitive.
JohnnyVince7 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 02/13/22
It was good, but didn’t like how so much of the same “recordings” was repeated in each episode especially at the beginning of each episode. A few times I had to double check that I was listening to the previous episode again. Worth a listen though.
MF2016 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 02/12/22
If you listen to the first episode you’ve listened to them all. The other episodes repeated the same information, even down to the same exact recordings, so it was kind of confusing to understand what the case actually is and what point they’re trying to make. Also, the background music is way...Read full review »
