To prepare for the Disney movie “Wreck it Ralph“, I take a look at the iPad app game that started it all. OK – not really started it all but it is the game behind the movie. Fix-it Felix Jr. is the game around the movie. In the game you are Felix and you are trying to fix the windows that Ralph has smashed. Watch out for Ralph though, for he drops bricks while you are trying to fix things. Watch out for passing ducks and collect pies as you go. If the shutters are open, you won’t be able to...

It’s the sequel to Fieldrunners, aptly called Fieldrunners 2. This is a tower defense game where you set up gunners in a map area to take down enemy forces. As you progress, you get more guns and other weapons. Watch out, though for the enemy gets stronger and smarter. This strategic puzzle defense game becomes hard really fast. The game also has time trials and other added bonuses during battlefield play. After so many soldiers shot, you will receive achievement cards. In-app purchases of...

If you need a challenge game on the iPad then look no further. I look at a game that is not the prettiest looking game out there but it’s pretty addictive. Puzzlejuice is Tetris, a word game, and a color block game all in one. Start by maneuvering the shapes to clear a row. The row will turn into a series of letters. As the next block falls you have to figure out 3 letter (or better) words to clear out the row. The colors on the shapes also play a part. When you get 3 or more of the same...

If you are a fan of the swipe game, Ninja Factor HD might be one to try out. Just like the popular fruit game, this one deals with numbers. When you start you are given a number to watch for. Swipe all the numbers for combos and more points. Don’t let the special number go off screen or else you lose a mark. Lose 3 marks and the game is over. There are many different Easter eggs in the game. Swipe the timepiece and have the game slow down for more combo moves. Watch out for the bombs or your...

I grew up with the gaming consoles. Atari, Activision and Coleco. When I found out that Pitfall was updated for the iPad, I just had to have it. The new version of Pitfall has a bit more resolution from the 8-bit game of 1982. The game is like Temple Run – Except there are more camera angles to it. Instead of watching 3rd person from behind, there are scenes where you are seeing Pitfall Harry from the side, and various side views. The controls are: swipe up to jump, down to slide, left and...

A game where you collect duct tape? I’m in! The name of the game is called TheEndApp. It is very similar to Temple Run, where you are running the roads, jumping over and sliding under obstacles. In this version, you are on an urban street after some type of Armageddon. You are collecting duct tape to survive this post-apocalyptic nightmare. You start by playing the tutorials. Once you go through all five challenges, you can free-run to build up stamina. When it’s time, choose to compete...

If you like the card game Magic: the Gathering, then I have an app for you. It’s called Magic 2013 by Wizards of the Coast, and it takes the popular card game and puts it on your iPad. While I’m not a big Magic: the Gathering fan, I have played it a time or two. Just like with the iPad version, you pull cards from your deck. Sometimes it’s land, other times is an attack card or enhancement card. You play land to get mana, then play mana to attack. Each person has 20 points, so the goal is...

A couple months ago, I talked about Temple Run – a game where you run from monkeys and collect coins. A new version of Temple Run: Brave has been released, this special edition uses the characters from Disney Pixar’s Brave. You are Merida, and you are running from a beast. You have to jump, turn and collect coins – just like in the original version. Added to the game was sliding under trees and rocks, and targets – as you are running, you shoot a number of targets the game puts out for...

Today’s game is a twist on Space Invaders. Except instead of fighting off alien ships, you fight off.. chickens! This shoot em up game has your ship avoiding eggs and turning chickens into fried birds. Along the way, you collect coins, presents to upgrade your guns, and other treats of chicken legs and whole cooked chickens. Of course, if you run into a chicken, or one of the eggs it lays – you loose a life. The game progresses with meteor showers and special levels. It’s an interesting...

Today’s game is called Super Chicken. It’s a game where you have a chicken on a perch. Eggs are floating on the screen. Your job is to get the chicken to each egg, so it goes in the nest. Then land safely on the nest as to not break the eggs. Levels get harder as you go, branches and other objects get in the way. Every time you flap the chicken wings, you loose gold coins. It requires you to be able to tap the screen and tilt it to navigate the bird to the nest. If you only cover some of the...

The words are arranged in a 4 row by 4 column square. You move your finger across the tiles to spell words. You can swipe left, right, up, down, or diagonal to spell a word. If you are a railroader, then this app is for you. I grew up in a model railroading family, so I know how some railroaders get into this. My Dad went from railroading, to building a miniature circus. Of course, in order to participate in train shows, the circus had to be brought in on a train. Train lovers like a good train track. They also love a good challenge. That is what ElectroTrains is all about. You are given a track, with 3 stations – Red, Blue and Green. The train color tells you...

Today for game Tuesday, we have a game that gets really addictive, really fast. If you were a fan of the game Tetris (which I was – it was the reason I bought an NES back in the day), then Letris is a great alternative. Instead of shapes dropping, you get lettered tiles. You don’t have to move them around, they will just drop. But when enough tiles drop to form a word, you can highlight the word and clear it out of the board. As the game progresses, blocks drop faster. If the blocks stack...

After I put this review together, I found out the app was pulled from iTunes, because their servers couldn’t keep up with the game play demand. It should be back once things get rectified, so we will continue with this game Tuesday app. BTW – if you have the app, you can still play the game… Tapped Out is the game. It’s a Farming style game that uses the Simpsons. The story is the nuclear plant blew up, so now Homer is tasked with rebuilding the city. He starts by building his house, and...
