I have always admired Eddie Glaud’s graceful and impactful navigation of the dark parts of our nation’s history. Pair this series with Rachel Maddow’s Ultra for a one, two lesson on why we are where we are.

Excellent and well done series. Dr. Glaude’s calm and measured voice allow his words to sink in and he brings up points I hadn’t considered before. A perfect example of the saying that “the more things change, the more they remain the same”.

I learned so much from this History is US series. I can’t wait to share it with my students. Wasn’t it Maya Angelou who said when you know better, do better? This is how I felt about this documentary. Now that I understand more, I can help others in a much more relevant way. I always find...Read full review »

Thanks for all you do!!!! As a 75 year old southern white person, I am so distressed that many of the country’s youth are totally ignorant of the atrocities that horrified me that I witnessed in person and on the TV in my youth in the 50s and the 60s. I appreciate your work and commentary on TV...Read full review »

Extraordinarily biased. Admittedly a part of history not covered well in public schools. However, a reading of J. R. Lynch’s : “The Facts of Reconstruction” would bring a modicum of balance to understanding some of the darkest days of the “American Experiment”

Such a profound perspective to an enormous injustice. Note: all history retelling will clearly miss other peoples’ perspective - history telling cannot be exhaustive.

Ep 6 is haunting & wonderful. As Jon Meaghan said this morning ‘if we are only in this for ourselves, we’re in trouble’. I am in this for people like Prof Glaude and Sen Booker (hopefully soon to bd the first of 2 senators Booker), and Senator Glaudes guests.
