Interesting podcast with good range of expert opinion on different topics. Melvyn is a jolly good host and is quite entertaining to listen to. Highly recommend In Our Time if you want to learn about interesting topics and listen to funny debates.

Glad this podcast is back, but I miss the coffee or tea offer at the end!

I used to think Melvyn was impatient/rude but more I listen, the more obvious it is that he's trying to keep things on track. Many historians seem to have trouble answering questions in less than 1000 words.Read full review »

This podcast is pretty good but it does have a substantial liberal viewpoint.

Very interesting podcast with highly knowledgeable guests BUT an extremely irritating host who is even quite rude to his guests, interrupting them constantly with ignorant comments that they have to correct .

7 minutes into my first episode I noticed what others have noticed.... the host is unbelievably rude to his female guest and polite to his male guest. The information from this podcast is lovely but I can’t stand this extremely poor etiquette. I had hoped the episode I was listening to was an...Read full review »

Brilliant. Feel proper smart listening to this :) note to users that can’t access episodes- try turning off vpn. That worked for me.

I love this podcast, the content is brilliant. It’s just that it always feels so rushed, not as much as the earlier episodes but still feels like they are always up against the clock. Can’t you just make the episodes longer and take your time a bit more. Other than that it’s fantastic, can’t wait...Read full review »

I love this podcast and have yet to find another like it. I’m a woman listener, and I will listen with more attention to how the host treats guests based on the other reviews going forward, but I have actually noted the opposite- how he always apologizes when he interrupts, how he always makes...Read full review »

Melvin Bragg is a host from a different era: knighted for his public radio work, a writer himself, he prepares extensively for each program and holds the guests to a much higher standard than do hosts in almost all other podcasts around these days. Yes he is direct and sometimes rude, probably...Read full review »

I’m disgusted that when he has a male and a female guest, he inevitably tells the woman to speak “please, in as few words possible,” or “keep it as short as you possibly can.” It’s disgusting — I’m sure the interesting content eclipses this for some and encourages them to wave off his behavior as...Read full review »

This podcast is excellent, an example of the quality the BBC can produce. Sometimes I’ve never heard of the subjects or it’s something I wouldn’t be interested in, but it always entertains me and interests me. Great stuff.
