Joyce Tyldesley, a British Egyptologist, has faced multiple accusations of plagiarism throughout her career. The most notable claim involves her 2008 book Egyptian Games and Sports, where she allegedly borrowed extensively from Wolfgang Decker’s Sport und Spiel im Alten Ägypten without proper...Read full review »

The questions asked and topics chosen are brilliant, the guests are wonderful. The only problem is the host won’t let them answer a question. Just when the guest begins a fascinating answer, he interrupts with another question. Very frustrating! This would be one of my favorite podcasts were it...Read full review »

I always enjoy this ram. The range of topics and the incisive interview questions are two important reasons. Sometimes the questioning is a bit brusque, but the topics are thoroughly explored and well explained.,

Excellent historical podcast, however I find that Melvyn’s mumbling speech makes it difficult to understand what he is saying. His guests’ speech is clear and easy to understand.

Eclectic- always well researched with knowledgeable experts and fascinating insights. A great listen.

Very informative with excellent guest contributors. However couldn't get through one whole episode because the host is so arrogant and rude. He interrupts constantly and refuses to distribute anything valuable himself. When one of the guests tried to hear his thoughts on something because he...Read full review »

I love the interesting subject matter, but does Melvyn Bragg have a speech impediment now? I can barely understand his mumbling. Five stars 🌟 for subject matter One star for presentation therefore I’ve given a THREE overall.

Incredibly intelligent guests and wonderful information, but borderline unlistenable due to the host’s rude interruptions which throw these smart people off their thoughts and audibly confuses them. Not to mention the host mumbles horribly and is extremely hard to understand when he inevitably...Read full review »

There are great guests on the show, very knowledgeable and content is top quality. However, I took a star away because the moderator Bragg’s manner comes across as rather brusque at times. I realise his role is to guide and probe the speakers, to come to the point in the shortest time, but he...Read full review »

I much appreciate the probing questions Mr Bragg is able to ask of his guests. They no doubt need to be well studied up

These are absolute lifesavers for us and for many of our friends. The topics are always interesting and the questions searching and always clarifies the subject for the layman. The best of the BBC . Thank you.

This is THE podcast for history lovers. The selection and depth of the topics means that you can find pretty much any thing you want to learn about and get a solid understanding in under an hour. I know that some commentators have mentioned Melvin Brag’s at time seemingly brash interruptions, but...Read full review »

It’s hard to absorb information when the host interrupts the guests so often! He asks questions in a snarky way, then talks over the guests as they attempt an answer. I had to turn it off. Too bad. It seems like the guests had a lot of info to offer if the host would get out of the way.

These days Bragg just goes through the motions … he sounds bored and it affects how interesting the subjects are. On the recent megaliths episode no one knows very much so it’s a tough subject anyway. Snooze fest.

I really enjoy the topics and most of the speakers. As a non-native English speaker I find it very hard though to understand Melvyn Braggs. It’s tough understand his mumbling.

It could have been a very interesting conversation about the Siege of Malta except Melvyn Bragg kept interrupting his guests while they were talking. This podcast is excellent, an example of the quality the BBC can produce. Sometimes I’ve never heard of the subjects or it’s something I wouldn’t be interested in, but it always entertains me and interests me. Great stuff.

Experts are excellent; very knowledgeable and generally well-spoken. The host interrupts a LOT and is at times quite rude. What wonderful and always interesting radio. Thank you BBC for such as this. Love the guests and the podcast as a whole but jesus christ Melvyn Bragg comes across really arrogant at times and interrupts his guests in such an impolite manner - especially female historians (e.g. episode on the Industrial Revolution, but I have noticed this on numerous occasions)!

Very interesting but ffs honestly can’t listen to it because of all the background noise, the host swallowing and gulping water and rustling paper and clearing his voice. MOVE AWAY FROM THE MIC! This is the most fascinating, informative program on radio. I love the wide range of topics. The host is excellent and the historians are top notch. The “few minutes at the end” is my favorite part. I have a list of books I need to get to after listening. The only negative-every episode adds to the list!
