Thank You for the Difficult Emotions
It feels odd to be grateful that a podcast dragged out some emotions you hadn't acknowledged, but I really needed to confront them in myself. When you listen (and you should), be ready for a mirror you weren't expecting. The dynamic and rapport between the hosts is full of warmth, friendship, and professional respect - they will give psychoanalysis, but with such a huge degree of compassion and empathy for the person who has written in. The emotions brought up can be difficult to process and listen to, but between them they provide a safe environment in which to sit with those. I would recommend listening at only 1x speed, as well as pausing when you really need to process what's been said. Or perhaps lay down and cope with how much you relate to and recognise situations and behaviours they describe (if you're me, anyway). Even if you don't relate, it's also emotionally affecting just to listen to two people show love and compassion for someone who clearly doesn't see a lot of it in their day-to-day life. Things generally in the world have seemed pretty dire recently, and it's meant a lot to have a small corner to go to where people are just working on understanding someone else's life.Read full review »
