Two friends both academics and DJs discuss their love of dance music and its history. A real pleasure to listen to and a fantastic way to discover music both new and old.

Is love the message or the answer? Probs both but these two legends will help you get you to the bottom of it with a superbly articulated deep dive into the partyverse.

In his preface to ”After Theory”, Terry Eagleton writes ”Another historic gain of cultural theory has been to establish that popular culture is also worth studying. With some honour- able exceptions, traditional scholarship has for centuries ignored the everyday life of the common people.”...Read full review »

Absolutely elated to find this podcast, incredibly thorough and informative on the history of music/club/dj/culture

Too many ‘likes’ and ‘you know’s per minute does not help to cement your authority as regards otherwise absolutely fascinating, and informative, discussion.

Anyone with even the faintest interest in music and counter culture should listen to this. They are able to situate music historically and dissect its meaning in such an engaging way. Has all the best things about podcasts with none of the typical limiters. You can tell they’ve been having these...Read full review »

a feat of podcasting – the most illuminating and exhaustive retelling of the disco story you could imagine, but so much more besides. jeremy and tim know everything there is to know about the music but they augment that with deep political and cultural history, exploring not just disco but funk,...Read full review »

No podcast I've ever listened to has had the impact of Love is the Message. It has encouraged me to revisit some of the recesses of my record collection (in some cases for the first time in many years) and connect with the music more deeply, thinking about it in a wider cultural and...Read full review »

Getting so much from this show - history, new historic insight, ideas, concepts, new tracks for my playlist and a worldview that’s worth dreaming about. Love it when thought and hope and good beats come together like this.

Fantastic podcast which just gets better as it goes deeper. If you have even a passing interest in the wider aspects of dance music within society, culture and politics, then this podcast is a must listen. Starting on the dancefloor of David Mancuso’s loft apartment and going on a journey through...Read full review »

Impressed from the outset at the depth and breadth of knowledge from the two hosts about Black American music and culture, but also the way it intersects with counterculture and radical politics. But as I go deeper in, I’m SO impressed at the consistency, the nuance and infrastructural perspective.

Anyone interested in club culture should stop what they’re doing right now and listen to this! I’ve just blitzed it and am already desperate for that third season to arrive. There’s still so much for them to cover which is exciting.

So, so good. A masterclass of the music history and radical politics of the dance floor. Centred on singular pivot that was David Mancuso and The Loft. Thank you Love saves the day ❤️

This is a thoughtful, authoritative, and widescreen look at the pulsing undercurrent between countercultural production and political economy in the mid-twentieth century. For anyone interested in music as a space of inquiry for progressive politics, or anyone interested in the deep and...Read full review »

Every week Tim & Jeremy go deep into dance music and counter culture history in a way that makes me realise and learn things every episode. The subjects can be broad - from Woodstock to an obscure night club inspired by the loft in NYC. Do not miss

Big fan of Tim’s work with his books on dance music and social history of the 70’s and 80’s, the books themselves are so detailed I didn’t expect he had much more to tell, but these podcasts go deeper and reflect on many more issues that were previously covered. For anybody who loves musical...Read full review »

A beautiful love letter to David Mancuso and a deep dive into the music, culture and politics surrounding his parties and beyond. Thriving off the encyclopedic knowledge of the two absolute heads presenting, Jeremy and Tim. Highly recommend to all music, politic and party lovers.

I am loving this podcast. Just the right amount of political insight and context while still giving the joy of music and the dance floor plenty of breathing space. Mildly nerdy in all the right ways with a massive uplift
