bipolar & blood sugar/food regulation :0)
I fought to remove myself from medications that were not helping me with my struggle of a diagnosis of Bipolar type1.... (I am not advocating for anyone to do it the way I did, necessarily lol) as I did it on my own without much help/support. I stopped taking benzodiazipines and antipsychotics and I was scared - I began journaling food, mood, daily notes on events, anxiety, relational interactions, stress levels. It was fascinating as patterns began to emerge: sleep was vitaly important and not to be messed with - next was FOOD! I have a direct correlation with carbs to my moods and impulses... obviously I avoid caffeine and alcohol at all costs... but, am trying to avoid carbs. My doc in 2015 told me I needed cholesterol meds and that I was prediabetic - but was angry when I mentioned wanting to change my life. I went from 228 to 168 and lowered triglycerides, total cholesterol, increased good cholesterol, but am still lingering around 126 average of blood sugar. I have recently become desperate thinking I'm not going to win this battle (parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters; all diabetic)! Even the doc seemed to laugh when I wanted to battle this process the same as I did bipolar managment (still no meds since 2015). I felt a bit overwhelmed regarding food and thinking I needed to eat every 2 hours - but didn't seem to be making correct choices and then there is the almighty binge.... :0( All this rant to say: THANK YOU! I feel better equipped, I understand what is happening in the body better - such as overload carbs, build up fat stores in liver, overflowing garbage hidden throughout the house, and suddenly solutions I am hearing through this podcast seem relatively SIMPLE - I know still not "fun" exactly because lets face it, we love carbs for self gratification - but, I have to go to bed earlier than anyone I know, I can not drink, I cannot have many major changes or overstimulation and I can't have caffeine or sugar all related to my bipolar managment - hahahaha some things are okay for others - but not beneficial for me! I cannot thank you enough for the hope you are giving in managing this and feeling better equipped to fight for my health naturally and avoid meds. I am blown away and just so thankful!!!!!!!Read full review »
