Academic, but still decent
This podcast is like college or graduate history, it is more focused on issues of class, gender, and race than great events or politics and war. That being said, about 50% of the episodes are great and 50% remind me of why I dropped all history classes in college. I would like more episodes about the early modern era, episodes that examine source material and talk about the grand scope of ottoman history than episodes that talk about why Napoleon was an "orientalist" or how the ottoman mustache was related to colonialism or whatever.Read full review »

The presenters are well-informed and enthusiastic. The subject matter is not well known and the first podcast convinced that it was worth exploring. The presentations are rambling. History of Rome is the gold standard.

I love the diversity of subjects. It gives you a different perspective on the Ottoman history.
