Losing Focus
I used to listen to this podcast a lot, but there's too much self-promotion in it for it to still be interesting. Just today, I thought I'd give it another chance by listening to it on my 15 min walk to work. The episode was supposed to be about DNS, but they never got that far by the time I reached the office: they spent the entire time promoting Gibson's software, science fiction magazines, and the Astaro gateway server--just like they did the last time I tried to listen to this dying podcast. I would like to listen to this podcast and I enjoy the topics they come up with, but it's probably more productive to listen to something else when you have the time, and simply look up the topics they post if they seem interesting to you. The ads would be fine if there was content relating to modern security between them, but the lengthy boasting, self-promotion, and ego-talk that fills that void instead is starting to make this podcast lose it's reputation as the best technology podcast out there. Will this podcast spend the rest of it's life trying to live up to it's name?Read full review »
