I was looking forward to a feminist take on the books, and their discussions on sexism in the books were quite validating. I also found their unconventional views on Iluvatar and Morgoth interesting. I tolerated their groans (although a mood-spoiler) when discussing names in the Silmarillion,...Read full review »

I wish that I had listened to this podcast when it was live because I would have written in all the time. Such interesting conversation! I listened to several episodes of another podcast that basically read the Silmarillion as scripture. As someone who doesn’t even read scripture as scripture, it...Read full review »

Looked forward to listening to each episode as I finished a chapter in the trilogy. Gives a modern viewpoint on the themes and characters in the books, but also just a fun podcast to use as a follow along if you’re getting stuck into the books.

I absolutely love this podcast! As someone who's read LotR, The Hobbit, and attempted but swiftly gave up on The Silmarillion; seen and loved the LotR movies and... saw some of the Hobbit ones 👀👀... y'all, this podcast had me Cracking Up at so many points, but also they bring up a lot of...Read full review »

I gave this podcast a good listen, in order to truly understand where it came from, and where it hoped to go. Neither point has ever been clarified. It is impossible to ascertain what the hosts understand or appreciate from episode to episode. In fairness, it seems as though one or two...Read full review »

The hosts are hilarious. I have never even read Tolkien, but this podcast is so entertaining.

They have made a podcast I think we all can enjoy. Let us praise them with great praise! Praise them with great praise.

With its meandering, self-involved intros this podcast takes a looooong time to get going. Once it does, I’m still not sure who would get much out of it. Good editing that removed the solipsism, discursive rambling, and repetition would improve it a lot. This is definitely not for anyone who...Read full review »

I am new to Tolkien and just started working my way through the series. When i started the books I immediately started looking for a podcast to accompany my read and tried several podcasts that were fine, but not working for me. I recently started the older episodes of this podcast and already...Read full review »

Maybe if you didn’t “skim” through, you would realize that Finrod didn’t actually participate in the kinslaying and he only went on the journey to Middle-Earth because he didn’t want to leave his people to the corrupt ruling of Fëanor because he loved them. He was absolutely selfless. He did not...Read full review »

Been listening to it as a companion piece to rereading the books in my own language. Insightful, fun, with a fresh perspective. All three hosts are knowledgeable, likeable with their own quirks and inputs.

I might give it a few more episodes. Pretty painful so far. If you are looking for a podcast that allows you to stand in judgment over Tolkien from the perspective of our current clown world, here you go. Not sure if anyone asked for it, but here it is.

Highly entertaining, with a fresh viewpoint on the good Professor. Recommended.

Going to listen to a couple more episodes. So far they don't seem to enjoy their own process. Rather than an exploration of the text from a modern or feminist point of view, it feels like a judgment for not conforming to ideas that didn't even exist when Tolkien was writing. Hopefully...Read full review »

I wasn’t able to get through the books back when the movies came out, but this is a great, entertaining podcast that has gotten me through (so far) The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and half of The Fellowship Of the Ring!

That title is a portmanteau of "entertaining" and "sensational" with maybe "educational" thrown in the middle there? Anyway, this podcast is definitely a fun listen, whether it's your first or five hunderdth time through Tolkien!Read full review »

You can’t expect a book written in 1936 to hold up to the gender equality standards of 2018, guys.

Tolkien from a female, feminist perspective is a breath of fresh air for someone like me who grew up on the books and enjoys the movies, despite their faults.
