Great show!!! Unfair criticism
I have listened to several episodes of this podcast and I find it to be extremely entertaining. I love Dr. Tyson. His enthusiasm is a delight to listen to. I also love Lynne Koplitz. I find her to be very funny and I enjoy her curiousity and the questions she asks. The chemistry between the hosts is palpable and makes the podcast all the more enjoyable. I find that much of the criticism leveled against this podcast to be unfair. First of all, the complaints about Lynne's voice are pointless. All people sound different, with different accents and pitches. She can't help what her voice sounds like. If that is what is keeping someone from listening, then you probably shouldn't have been listening in the first place. Second, the complaints about the Lynne's comedy is unfounded. She is obviously funny enough to be featured on Comedy Central, and Dr. Tyson obviously finds her funny. Third, the complaints about the comedian guests are a matter of opinion. There are plenty of other podcasts that focus completely on science. The comedy on this podcast, from both Lynne and the guests serves to keep the discussion from getting to technical (I don't want my head to start hurting after listening for five minutes, and although Dr. Tyson does a pretty good job of keeping it simple, he can get technical). Next, Lynne is there to serve as a connection for the listeners. She acts as a sounding board for Dr. Tyson to show his knowledge and explain his insights. She is there to let Dr. Tyson relay the information he has and to provide some comic relief. As for the complaint the Lynne plays "the dumb girl" or a "Barbie", it is a joke, and if you take the time to listen to what she says, she is pretty intelligent and is asking questions to try and further her knowledge. And as for the complaints about Dr. Tyson resetting the show several times each episode, it has to be remembered that this was a radio show where that was necessary. I'm sorry to spend so much time trying to show why these complaints are unfair, but I believe that it is necessary to show new listeners that the complaints about this podcast shouldn't stop them from listening to this because ultimately it is up to each individual to decide if they like the podcast. I just think that some of the criticisms here are not indicative of all the podcast, and are quite frankly rude and nasty.Read full review »

The show has some very interesting subject matter, and even if I understand a lot of the basic concepts behind what they're talking about already, I love hearing more. It seems like every time Tyson is about to add in some kind of really explanation of something, though, Koplitz jumps in with...Read full review »

It's sort of an "Astronomy for Dummies" show, seemingly targeted at teenagers and young adults who never paid much attention to this sort of thing before. Everything is presented in quick little sound bites that barely scratch the surface of the subject matter. Interviews with...Read full review »

Great podcast. I thinks I getting more smarts hearing this stuff. Really got me interested in looking up more. I don't believe Neil is being used properly. If he was more immersed in popular media the masses might be more into science than Jersey Shore. He makes being smart look cool.Read full review »
