This podcast puts in the work, delivering information and insights that help to explain health and healthcare issues. So many podcasts are simply promoting fads and products - this doesn’t.

I am a 20 year BH professional. This podcast started out honest, fair, and reflective of so many challenges to our imperfect healthcare system. I consider myself politically neutral and appreciate the objectivity. Unfortunately, the most recent episode shifted to a political “side” and seemed...Read full review »

Working in healthcare, I totally get how dysfunctional our healthcare system is. This podcast brings so many great discussions that we need to engage so we can provide high value care (quality care at low cost).

Uninformed and wrong podcast. Never gets into personal responsibility. Admits that the problems with insurance only started because of government interference and socialist actions but thinks that more socialism is the answer!

As a “healthcare provider” I have been shielded from the realities of how the system actually works. Exploiting us as pawns and as consumers of the very same system. not only is this podcast informative, it guides listeners on how to advocate for ourselves.. this system can’t continue to work as...Read full review »

This podcast combines horror stories from the U.S. healthcare system with the most inane market-based “solutions” which wouldn’t change anything. Instead of getting billionaires to pay taxes and finance health care, we are told that patients should call their insurance while they are in an...Read full review »

I’m so grateful to live in Australia. Our system isn’t perfect but never would I have to worry about calling an ambulance or getting a scan that costs in the thousands or even just going into any sort of debt for medical procedures. Very interesting but also scary.

Such an important topic. Information provided in an interesting and real-life way.

Having experienced UK (NHS) and decades of for profit American health care for my chronic issues this is my take on this podcast. Focus on anecdotal experiences and graphic tragic outcomes doesn’t illustrate the everyday mindset and relationship with health care of most Americans. To...Read full review »

Validation!! As a registered nurse, this podcast shows the corrupt greed and dysfunction of the healthcare industrial complex. Money, slick lobbyists, and million of dollars buying off politicians keeps justice and equity in healthcare out of reach for the majority of people in the US. People...Read full review »

I just found this podcast and already I’m obsessed. It’s super pro and the audio and editing are amazing. I was an RN for 20 years and worked on a renal unit for 4 years, so the episode on dialysis was very enlightening. I’m now a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the episodes...Read full review »

As someone who watched a lot of medical dramas growing up (E.R., Chicago Hope etc) I’ve long been intrigued and horrified by a system that allows people to go bankrupt because they happen to get sick, or asks them for their insurance details when they’re first wheeled in to the E.R. from the...Read full review »

Excellent podcast about an complex broken system. I will take issue with the idea that the outcomes based payment models described in episode 5 may be a 'long fix' solution to the Fee for Service model. Having worked in primary care with this 'new and improved model', it does...Read full review »

This might be one of the best podcasts I have listened to thus far. Wonderful reporting, insightful stories and deep perspective. Thank you for this enlightening series. As a Union-member RN, I knew the hospitals were misrepresenting their Non-profit model to avoid paying RNs what we earn in our blood and sweat, but the veil is off now! Single payor system for all. I own a small business. After Obamacare I could only afford the premium not any healthcare. As an American citizen who has lived many years in Europe I can attest how our healthcare system is the most expensive, insensitive and discriminatory. Thank you for digging into this issue and bringing light into a broken system in so much need of a reform.

It’s heart breaking to hear the loss of family members of the host. However, the tragedy has more to do with the genetics makeup and personal responsibility than anything else. I was really engaged by this series until David Smith blithely justified the rampant greed of health care providers in the most recent episode.
