“I'm sad to see the old incarnation of The Talk Show go, but I really enjoyed the first episode.
I think the change up made things a bit fresher - the old incarnation felt a bit flat for much of the past few months. This was definitely an improvement, Gruber sounded much more engaged and "on". Not to say that I don't miss Dan, but I think the change has done it good. While Dan provided some structure to TTS, I felt like the best episodes were always the ones that just featured a wandering conversation, as this one did. There are other shows where you can find a bit more structured news discussion, but I don't think Gruber's at his best in that environment.
Perhaps sometime down the road Dan can join Gruber for an episode once in a while, or have him has a guest on a 5by5 show.
The one area that could definitely stand some improvement is the ad copy - felt very flat and forced, but I'm sure that will get better with practice. I will miss having the live shows, but that does require some substantial infrastructure.”Read full review »
