So Necessary
I've watched and re-watched Mad Men more times than I can count, and occasionally I'll do a random search in Apple podcasts to see if anyone has even so much as devoted an episode recently to MM. Imagine my delight to find this. I initially assumed I would listen sort of randomly/sporadically to discussions of some of my favorite episodes, but now I find myself in yet another full rewatch of the series usually watching an episode per night, then listening to the podcast as I prepare to fall asleep. Roberta and Daniel have an excellent rapport, and I love listening to them talk through their various interpretations of scenes, lines, character behavior that is repeated throughout the series, etc. My take on Bobbie Barrett is continually evolving, and for the first time I have a new take on Katherine Olson thanks to Dan's continual praise of the way the character is drawn and Myra Turley's portrayal of her. I'm now finding myself even more fascinated with the character of Peggy Olson who was already a favorite of mine not simply in terms of Mad Men, but across all media. Lately I've been waking up mentally constructing a "What We Talk About When We Talk About Peggy Olson" (better title pending) type of essay that I'm probably going to have to carve out several hours to fully write. This is in large part due to where the podcast led me in speculating about just what exactly Peggy goes through both psychologically and physically between seasons one and two. Clearly I can do this all day, but I'll stop here instead. One final note on the podcast itself - the 2020/2021 view of the world and acknowledgements of their own cultural blindspots that the hosts bring into their conversations are beautifully handled. Please listen and enjoy.Read full review »

I love this podcast. Each episode of Mad Men is deconstructed and analysed, from the script and it’s nuances to the lipstick Betty wears to the talk of the future politicians of America and what makes them. I could listen to it all day long. I am a year late and have much to catch up on so...Read full review »

To preface I’m definitely an obsessive, have rewatched all the way through at least 10 times. Dan and Roberta are lively and do a good job of not just recapping but having some discussion of dialogue, themes in an episode, etc. I was hoping for something more in depth. There are other die hards...Read full review »
