Just a bombardment of statistics and information, no story telling g. Very monotonous delivery.

The episodes after #3 it gets painful to listen. The first 3 episodes are interesting, but then it becomes repetitive and includes info that is not super relevant and presented so choppy that it’s hard to follow. Also, as other people noted the narrator’s voice is not vary captivating and it’s...Read full review »

Every aspect of this production is peak. Incredible. The music, the pacing and delivery is remarkable.

At first, this seemed like a well-researched, interesting story. But with the introduction of untraceable conspiracy theories told by anonymous narrators, the whole story blurred into a confusing blur. I can handle uncertainty or ambiguity, but please make sure the narrative is clear in who says...Read full review »

I’ve always had a fascination with cults… I find this podcast is amazing. In depth research with plenty of facts I had never heard. Thanks so much for making this podcast.

Nice details and reporting. But she sounds like a computer generated voice. So annoying.

A huge amount of detail, work. Also very interesting.

Episode 10 really touched me Showed that Jim Jones tried to talk mothers into giving up their children and Tom mother would not let him and therefore saved the family!! I have looked up the transcripts of the podcasts and fills in details of some of the people in the podcast Good work

Was just turned onto this show and it’s mind-blowing. Chilling.

Luckily the content is interesting enough to carry itself, because the format of this podcast is completely irritating. They say they are playing the tapes without doctoring, yet play music over them? I am still confused about what is the tape and what is sound effect. They jump around to...Read full review »

This is one I’ve been meaning to start for a while. Fascinating listen and so much detail! I love the integration of the actual audio and the way it’s laid out. As far as some of the comments about the narrator’s voice, I am an avid True Crime listener and if you enjoyed “Serial” or “Tenfold...Read full review »

This podcast is absolutely fascinating. The use of the audio recordings really takes you to the place and time. The episode entitled “The Death Tape” is horrific but something that should be heard by anyone who has interest in this tragedy. As an open minded individual, I particularly enjoyed the...Read full review »

This is a detailed exploration of Jim Jones, Jonestown, People’s Temple, the followers, and the aftermath. But the narration is just odd. The narrator sounds almost AI, with little inflection… but sped up to 1.5x. Very cold narration 🤔

This is amazingly detailed, and the audio integration is incredible!
Whickerpedia via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 04/22/21
This is one of the best podcast series I’ve ever come across. Technically well produced. Meticulously researched. Thousands of hours spent combing through archives. And all wrapped inside a tragic story told with compassion, grace, and skill. This podcast is it. 7/5 stars.

This podcast has clearly done its research and could have been really really awesome. The information and audio clips are there. But it listens like a school report with audio clips. Not to be a jerk- but the delivery and format felt dry . A+ on the research and info - and decidedly less on...Read full review »

The actual recording and interviews really help tell this whole story as it should be told. Even though this was a horrible tragedy it brings it all together perfectly. The narrator also has a strong voice and she keeps you drawn in. I highly recommend and appreciate all of the small details...Read full review »

At first, it was informational and kept my attention. By the time I hit episode 3 I was getting annoyed, it seemed they just ran out of content. I haven’t finished episode 5 and have no intention of listening to more because they continue to reuse the same audio clips and say the same things and...Read full review »

The focus on unsubstantiated possible "conspiracies" about Jim Jones, Peoples Temple and Jonestown has just completely turned me off from this podcast. Narration sounded like Siri reading a book. Podcast skipped important character and historical details, instead it jumped into unfounded conspiracy theories.

This is amazing. I know this story very well. The narrator is great. The opportunity to listen to the actual audio, plus the observations of the editing of it, are why I am here. This is intense.

This story is fascinating, how does the narrator manage to make it so boring? She speaks so quickly it’s difficult to follow, and I really felt like she was reading a list of facts. I didn’t get past the first episode.

Some errors noted. I had no problem with the narrator. Coverage of the wacky MK Ultra stuff was good as was coverage of Jones’ 2 passports. Episode 1 has a tape snippet of a beating in Jonestown. The person being beaten was caught trying to rape a 12 year old. The 12 year old was the one beating...Read full review »

I agree with some of the complaints about the host/narrator but the biggest one is that she speaks very, very quickly. She drops lots of names so it would be a little more helpful if she slowed down. The tapes of Jim Jones are definitely the best part of the podcast (though some parts are...Read full review »

Fascinating. Really liked how this was laid out. Gives you the background on Jim Jones. Gives you the background on People's Temple. Tells you the story how it happened as far as we know. Lays out the things that don’t add up. Goes into the popular conspiracy theories while being upfront...Read full review »

of the darkness within the hearts of humankind. Effectively told, and impossible to put down, Transmissions from Jonestown is a haunting and disturbing audio recounting of some of the events that took place inside the People’s Temple cult.

Meh
I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts, and have recently branched off into more cult-specific content. Couldn’t even get through the first episode. Sounds like a computer voice, monotonous and too fast. It’s too bad, cause the original material is fascinating. ...it’s so unnecessary, and pretty tasteless. You’ve got powerful primary material, interesting commentary...with goofy sound effects? Turn off the terrible computerized sound effects! These are so bad it made it almost unlistenable. Sad when they’re worse than the terrible quality of the actual death tape. They’re so loud and distracting and really takes away for what could be a great podcast.
