Fascinating, instructive and well researched!

Interesting as a recap of the case for those (like me) who know it only by reputation. But despite the makers’ insistence of their clear-eyed neutrality (in presenting an experiment to assess visibility while driving at night, which fails to prove that a prosecution witness’s evidence was...Read full review »

Thoroughly enjoyed this professionally presented podcast with such a highly emotive and sad situation. Well written and well presented with as much information as possible allowing you an immersive look into this sad and distressing case. Heartfelt sorrow for those poor kids and their mum.

I was taught about cough syncope at medical school in 1984. This is truly shocking. How can “experts” get it so wrong and be so arrogant? Hats off to the podcast team for shining a light on this tragic case.

A compelling and well researched and told look into this tragedy.

Wow Mr Bachelard, this is the highest quality journalism, unbiased in the pursuit of truth.

I listen to lots of podcasts and have seen this particular story. I thought this is the guy that killed his children out of revenge without knowing the full story. I’m so glad I finally listened to your podcast . As a father myself I try and put myself in Robert’s situation. It is impossible to...Read full review »

I started listening to this with no knowledge of the case. I soon realised that this is pointless. He clearly did it- he had a history of coercive behaviours, made no effort to save his children, asked for cigarettes and wanted to tell his ex wife that her children were in the river. Save your...Read full review »

Loving this podcast. Cough Syncope is real. When I was a smoker I had 3 episodes of this, it is scary.

As someone not familiar with this case I was intrigued to hear how this would unfold. The fact that someone’s behaviour (whether perceived as good or bad) after an event like this can play a large part in conviction is worrying. I am keen to know if in the days, weeks, months or years after the...Read full review »

This feels like an attempt by the journalist to be seen to champion an “innocent man” in a high profile case (great way to get listeners). It is not at the level of journalism I’ve come to expect and appreciate from The Age. I’ll admit to being uncomfortable about the subject of this podcast from...Read full review »

Poses some very interesting opposing theories. I believe some people have rated this podcast poorly because they have not listened to it and just plainly want to dismiss any thought that he may be innocent. There appears to be a lot of junk evidence used in his conviction and how the testimony of...Read full review »

The podcast doesn’t really live up to the premise at all - that an innocent man has been put in jail. The evidence presented in the podcast is very selective and interpreted in a way that doesn’t even provide any compelling reason why the judgment should be disturbed. Quite tellingly, it starts...Read full review »

Love the show, but what about Chris Watts or Scott Peterson? They went from zero to 100. What about Susan Smith or Andrea Yates? Lori Vallow?

I have no idea why time and effort has gone into cherry picking evidence to try to prove a man who has killed his three children as innocent…the man committed Filicide to punish Cindy for the rest of her short life, what’s next a podcast to try to prove Aurthur Freemen didn’t kill Darcey?

Everyone says speak up and be smart about recognising abusers of women and children. Yet in this case we are being asked to put proven facts aside and cast this man alongside Folbigg and Chamberlain. Both of whom were treated terribly because they are women, mind you. Why the massive effort to...Read full review »

Absolutely wild to think this was in any way needed given he was convicted, twice, on this evidence. Remind me again how far he drove to get to the damn with no braking? Please. Maybe your time would be better spent investigating a worthwhile case?

There aren’t a lot of people wanting to entertain the idea that this was an accident. I don’t either but The point of the podcast for me is introducing the idea of doubt. After listening I believe there is doubt. As to whether it’s more than reasonable doubt that is for others to decide but it’s...Read full review »

I do much prefer a Podcast with a point of view and this has one based on scientific evidence. And so much better than some other “trial by podcast” that seek to try folks BEFORE they’ve been to trial (eg Teachers Pet). It seems so much more virtuous to use Podcasts to right the wrongs of justice...Read full review »

The whole podcast try’s to give explanations of why this man is innocent?!?!? The investigators that were involved have a lifetime of study and on hand experience, countless numbers of them. This podcast thoroughly attempts to question the evidence. However there is much more than legal “ facts” in cases such as these. The truth is in his psychology and his motive. He drove into the dam. He didn’t do this to get back at Cindy. He did this to try and get her back. Cindy had lost her...Read full review »

This podcast and everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves. All in the name of ratings. Cindy isn’t alive to speak for herself. I really struggle to support the comparison between Lindie Chamberlain & Kathleen Foilbigg. I think this was terribly out of line. This episode seems to go against the evidence. There is so much confirmation bias and unjust faith in the legal system displayed, especially in the final episode. Three children are at the absolute center of this and they rarely get mentioned. After listening to nearly all of this podcast I came away really disappointed. It’s not as bloated as some podcasts, the storytelling is done well. It’s certainly a tragic story where nearly all of the family have now died. I can’t believe people reasoning “there’s so much DV why would you examine this”. Insane to potentially let an innocent man rot because other people are guilty of something? Irrational. I enjoyed the podcast, even though it was hard to hear. I def think a retrial is required.

Why open these wounds up again? You clearly aren’t from our community. Robert Farquharson is guilty, his actions were calculated, as a parent or even as an onlooker there would be no way you would leave your children in that dam, strangers have died going into water to save children they didn’t even know. Trying to paint Farqueson as a Lindy Chamberlin or Kathleen Folbigg is as in poor taste as using the poor dead mothers voice before the EVIDENCE changed her mind. Huge fan of podcasts of this format - of journalists questioning the legal process. This podcast feels quite one sided though, focusing on rather weak or questionable ‘faults’ in the investigation. Not convinced that any new and compelling evidence has been unconverted to overturn this conviction…

I’ve never really heard of this case before and it’s fascinating reading all the one star reviews from people who made up their minds long ago. I’m surprised at the opinions of the negative reviews… I found this podcast well structured and compelling. This podcast is so bad that I have to believe it’s by design. The interview with the “expert” on child killers in Episode 4 sums the show up perfectly. Heard of Farquharson? Nah.
