This podcast hosted by Richard O. Jones—something of a character himself—tells historical true crime stories literally ripped from the headlines of the day. It’s sweet spot is homicide about a century ago. A while back Jones took a sabbatical from the show—and it’s absence made me think of it...Read full review »

Told completely thru the journalism of the time, the narrator reads various newspaper reports published as the story unfolded. Fascinating and Fabulous!

Love this podcast. I'm a big history guy and the gimmick of recounting crime stories using only contemporary newspaper sources is inspired. The host has a laconic, musical drawl which makes these tales of mayhem strangely relaxing.Read full review »

Oh, how I have missed you! So glad you guys are back! One of my favorite podcasts. The crimes from the old days… should have their stories told. And you guys do an AMAZING job at it.

I listened to a few of this guys Podcasts from the first season and didn’t really like it. To each their own, I think it’s boring. The voice overs are SCARY BAD!!!

Have been long time listener love this podcast. The Narrator is / was fantastic. Recently he started using Different voices for theCharacters I may be the only one but I can’t stand it. I liked it when it was as if he was just reading the newspaper to us. Please go back to the old format.

Just to let people know this podcast has stood the test of time for me. It is delightfully different from the oftentimes tired, old, boring in their sameness, crime podcasts. It is truly unique. I want to add/update that this has now become my favorite podcast in the crime category. I love the...Read full review »

The stories are great, however I do not love the readings in different voices; if I wanted an audiobook I’d be on audible.

Sorry but it’s not good enough to generalize “info came from old [insert town here] newspapers” as your sources. If you read the original articles to get enough info for an hour long podcast, then please give the proper credit to the source, articles, and author (if they’re listed). It’s lazy...Read full review »

I’ve had to limit listening to this great show to daytime only. The ads are so loud and disruptive that it’s awful bedtime listening. Really too bad.

Now, it’s EXTREMELY LOUD canned commercials in the beginning which repeat two and three times in a row. A minute and a half of the same commercial on repeat is a dealbreaker. It’s jarring, especially when a person is listening to relax.

Thank you so much for the fascinating Lizzie Borden account written by Edmund Pearson in the 1920s. So well done by you. I’ve listened to it twice. This is my favorite podcast. Richard Jones combs old American newspapers and selects passages to read that tell the reported versions of obscure...Read full review »

I have listened to this podcast since it started. The narration is the best! I am always lost in the story. Always listen more than once to each. If American history is your thing it transports you from those who were there via the news articles of the day. Give it a try you won’t be sorry.

This is my absolute favourite podcast. The host’s delivery is perfect for the grim old stories. It’s always exciting to see a new episode drop.

I love to listen to this podcast to sleep. The stories are interesting enough that I listen to them like a bedtime story. I find the music in the middle jarring at times but I’ve gotten used to it. Thanks ROJ for all the work you put in.

When I first opened my family, I really didn’t pay much attention to the stories as I like the voice of host Richard O Jones, as it is relaxing to sleep too. However within a month I found myself paying attention and looking forward to each episode. Great podcast.

Mr Jones transports the listener in a most visceral way back to when journalism took the reader into the minutiae of the everyday lives of ordinary citizens caught up in extraordinary events. Please keep it up, it’s obviously a labour of love and we love it!

I listen to many true crime podcasts. Some are awesome, some are awful, some are political and judgmental but thus one sneaks up on you. I enjoy it greatly. I like the way he tells the story.
