I feel a loss now that this podcast has finished. As a recent former member of this community- an ex-citizen of Shambhala- it feels painful and also healing to hear these stories. A gift! It makes so much sense hearing this how abuse has been rampant and built into the fabric of the sangha. ...Read full review »

Poignant, enraging and intoxicating story telling - From a masterfully written child’s point of view, we are inviting to explore how children are devalued, cast adrift and targetted in troubled families and communities. The narrators kindness and humour shows through, as she survives as shown...Read full review »

Nina is a natural-born storyteller, and it works to her advantage as she weaves a provocative and intimate portrait that captures, at its core, something we all want— and the lengths we’re willing to go to get it: to be seen.

Good story. I wish she had more to say and eased back on the relentless sound effects. Maybe some music rather than kids laughing, traffic and random other sounds that are obviously not recordings from the time.

You are telling/have told your story courageously, honestly, and gently. I’m floored; my heart goes out to you for what you’ve endured. Truth IS enlightening/empowering; perhaps this is the nectar we have so desperately wanted to drink by “following Shambhala”.

Perhaps this could be more accurately subtitled ‘Growing up in a very dysfunctional Jewish family, developing a personality disorder, and blaming it all on a spiritual celebrity instead of my messed up single mother.’ Very little of the story is about Tibetan Buddhism or Chogyam Trungpa...Read full review »

A much needed insight into the the harms and abuses perpetrated by the founder of the Naropa University. It’s hard to listen to this and know he is still so widely venerated among Americans audiences.

A well told personal story done with diligent background research into one of the most influential spiritual communities in the US. The account of the harrowing incidents is level headed and informative, putting no-one down, created with care toward both the subjects and the listeners. Excellent...Read full review »

A brilliant storyteller, Una, transports the listener on what could be a sensationally horrific journey through the eyes of a child. That child being herself is no small feat considering the childhood neglect and abuse she has experienced. That’s why this series is a brilliant piece of work. The...Read full review »

A wonderful and harrowing soundscape journey into an unbelievably trying childhood under fascinating circumstances.

I applaud Una for her bravery in bringing these stories to light. Growing up in the “Sangha” was an experience that has always been challenging to put into the right words for those outside of it to truly understand. Una has eloquently done it exquisitely! Not only do I think an outsider might...Read full review »

I’ve been transported to my childhood. Una you were always part of the very fascinating older children for me. Such a beautiful child’s experience of our very confusing and eclectic community. Such beauty and pain existing simultaneously. Thank you for telling your story.

Fascinating. Can’t wait to hear how this story unfolds. The writing is precise and evocative, and I so appreciate Una’s measured, storytelling tone.
