What a brilliant listen Jah Wobble’s brief experience on the Underground was….especially the bit where he was training as a guard/driver. More pop stars in public transport job stories please.

Make it shorter, much of the ‘banter’ is excruciatingly dull.

Love the guests, love the info… but for god’s sake will you two rude old farts LET YOUR GUESTS FINISH THEIR SENTENCES!! Go back and listen to how many times you interrupt a perfectly interesting train of thought or comment from your guests with another question.

I first came across David & Mark on OGWT. I must say being a Rock,Metal, Pub Rock, Rock’n’Roll fan,I often saw my favourite acts getting withering, sarcastic reviews etc and feeling, it was generally open season at the Beeb, on the above genres. Un-trendy Rock dinosaurs like Jimmy Page &...Read full review »

It's a mixture - sometimes I find the guest in the interview type podcasts uninteresting and give it a miss - but only once have I actally hated the guest - that honour belongs to the vile political bigot Cathi Unsworth, if I discovered she had died, I'd crack out the bubbly.Read full review »

What’s wrong with you? No Dylan song is more joyous to sing along to. Especially if you’re looking after toddlers.

Always loved this podcast. Still amazing, insightful, educational, great guests. But that infernal acoustic intro/outro is ear-piercing & louder than the voices we love to listen to (mark & david’s). Can some high-end be EQ’d out, or bring level down just a touch? Thankfully those...Read full review »

Been listening to this for the last year or so and have listened to all the back issues on here in order. David and Mark seemed to be ever present in my musical upbringing and it’s great to see they’re still going strong after all these years. A must for anyone, especially the over 50s and those...Read full review »

I look forward to A Word In Your Ear and its offshoots so much. It’s so informative, but most certainly doesn’t take itself too seriously. Long may David, Mark & Alex reign!

Top notch music based entertainment from two old duffers who’ve seen em all come and go. Have followed them for years and they never fail to churn out quality.

It’s great fun to listen to these guys share stories from decades of great music and experiences. Always entertaining.

He’s only retiring from touring not live performance. He’ll still do residencies and one-offs from time to time. He still says performing live is his favourite thing. And why wouldn’t Goodbye Yellow Brick Road be his final song ever when like it is on his farewell to touring tour?

I like the podcast and even find it, but they talk about the Beatles a lot, and I mean a lot.

Still hugely enjoyable after all these years. Rapidly getting into Grumpy Old Men territory but all the better for it.

I love your podcast but I have to disagree with your comment that Sam Fender was ‘monumentally boring’. He most definitely was not!

Dave and Mark are highly erudite commentators on all things rock, pop and film. Whilst delivering praise where it’s due, they eloquently call out some of the ridiculousness of the whole popular culture scene and its prima donna artistes. Personally, I think they could ditch some of the segments...Read full review »

Brilliantly enjoyable 50 minutes every week. The move to weekly helped me through lockdowns . I’m still enjoying this tremendously. Why do I remember all these releases from 40 /50 years ago ?

If you like music this is full of information & opinions about music mostly from 60s-90s from two journalist/author/broadcasters. A brilliant show, enjoy every episode. Thanks for taking the effort to record these discussions

Perhaps the most wonderful aspect of the Word is that David Hepworth and Mark Ellen’s passion for rock music remains completely undiminished despite having covered it for well over 50 years. Begun in the golden days of Word Magazine, evolving through Word In Your Ear nights in Islington, and now, courtesy of lockdowns, back to its roots of two cocoa tins and a bit of string, Mark Ellen and David Hepworth are the rock raconteurs par excellence. A wonderfully rambling ongoing conversation about the highways and byways of pop music from the ages between old friends, Mark, David & young whippersnapper Magic Alex who simply can’t be boring. This is one of the first podcasts I look for each week. Splendid!

Long term listener of these two fine gentleman and their entertaining music chat. Their regularity during lockdown has been especially welcome!

Good grief! Listening to Mark and David just reminds me of my late dad and his mates endlessly yawping on about bloody Bob Dylan and Fairport Convention. Their awareness of any artists post Live Aid is virtually zero……..and I absolutely LOVE THIS PODCAST!
