I feel like I finally got my life back! I’m down 20lbs in two months
I am 31 with a 6 month old and to my dismay, started gaining even more weight after giving birth this year and while breastfeeding. I constantly felt restless and looked to food as a way to escape the stress and anxiety related to motherhood. I also had diabetes when I was pregnant so I felt so much pressure to get my health back in check. It made me feel even more overwhelmed when I struggled looking in the mirror or couldn’t find anything to wear and ended up buying a whole new wardrobe in plus size for the first time. I’ve managed my weight in the past with restricted diets before but this time was different, no amount of willpower could help me because food preoccupied so much of my thoughts and it kept backfiring. My sister introduced me to her podcast and I’ve listened to 50 podcasts these past two months and have lost 20lbs. I am finally healing my food obsession after almost 20 years of diet brain thinking (makes me really sad when I think of my 12 year old self strictly counting calories or not eating fruits because of sugar or the binging/fasting cycle I would find myself in frequently). When I listen to Laura’s podcast, it is like having my own personal life coach as she completely gets what it is like to be obsessed with food while also being obsessed with wanting to lose weight. She lays the groundwork and helps model the correct thoughts about how to honor your body and “to eat the foods that serve you”. She teaches you how to identify your emotions, release the negative emotions and then proceed calmly with what you want to do. If you have ever been a binge eater, you know what it feels like to lose all control when it comes to eating as if there is something else taking over your brain. She helps you see the big picture in that food is to be enjoyed, but that not all foods feel good in our bodies. Figuring out the foods that make you feel your best is key. She also teaches compassion for ourselves, that you are never off the wagon or a day is not completely ruined because you slipped up and overate. You use it as data for the next time you make food choices because your goal is to feel good in your own body TODAY. Over these past two months, my relationship with food has taken a complete 180–it doesn’t control me anymore and it has freed up so much of my mental energy and time. I am 5lbs away from my pre pregnancy weight but would like to see where my naturally thin weight will be (hoping for another 30lbs). I am so thankful for Laura and her podcasts, I am not a member but I am sure she is worth it. I really wish she would write a book summarizing her thoughts because then I could focus on all her key points and even share it with other family members. My main takeaways are 1. Exercising for the joy of it and not for weightloss—it fuels me with endorphins and helps me stay in the mindset of doing what makes my body feel good 2. Befriending hunger (extremely important to break the cycle if you constantly eat and snack—she is not teaching disordered eating as another reviewer was alleging) 3. Eat the foods that serve you—you become numb to the fact that many of the foods you eat make you feel sick and even more disconnected from your body, 4. The way you lose it is the way you keep it off—that’s why every restrictive diet fails. You must pick a way of eating that you will enjoy the rest of your life and lastly 5. Honor and love your current body and tune into your body’s signals for hunger and fullness. There are so many more things that she teaches that will help you find your naturally thin way of being and once you do, it’s like the light goes on in your head and you can’t believe you’ve lived this lie that the diet industry has fed us our whole lives—that weightloss has to be endured through suffering and willpower. All I can say is thank you so much Laura for this podcast! I have so much hope now that I won’t be stuck in the food prison ever again. You are amazing and I’m so excited to be able to give the gift of a healthy relationship with food to my daughter as she grows.

I’m done dieting and stressing over my weight, and, the biggest bonus, I learned to deal w my thoughts and anxiety. Even if I hadn’t lost any weight, learning to deal with my anxiety was/is worth the time listening to her podcast. I’ve only been listening for a couple of weeks and I’ve lost 7...Read full review »
