This was so well done: the production, investigative journalism, the voice work, music, everything. I couldn’t recommend it enough!

I learned so much by listening to Gatecrashers and was also entertained. The podcast feels especially insightful and poignant given current world events. The only thing I disagreed with as a fellow Yalie was Mark’s statement that Harvard is the most prestigious US university. 🙄

Thank you Mark and Tablet for creating a compassionate and compelling narrative around this topic! Very timely and the commercials are not too annoying. I binged all the episodes on a Saturday and was sad it was over!

“Gatecrashers” is one of the best podcasts I’ve ever experienced. Absolutely fascinating. I attended an Ivy League university (Cornell), so it’s especially interesting to me. But you absolutely do NOT need to be a graduate of an Ivy to appreciate the shocking stories of how the highest rated...Read full review »

These insights into the Jewish experience of the Ivies are insights into U.S. history and the non-Jewish social/political elite of the 20th century. I hope there is a second season.

I love all of the Tablet podcasts and highly recommend them. Gatecrashers is especially good. Well-produced, interesting on a number of fronts, and really plays to all of Mark Oppenheimer’s strengths. Each episode is excellent on its own.

Fascinating, funny, candid, touching, beautifully structured and produced. Explores a subject I’ve always been curious about.

I wouldn’t change a thing. Every single component of this podcast series works. The host (Mark) is smart and has a great voice; the topic is rich, interesting, and has repercussions for today; the music is good; the investigative journalism is detailed ; I loved it.

I’m only through Ep 2 and I’ve already recommended this podcast to a bunch of friends. The open, systemic anti-semitism is important to understand, especially given how much things have evolved since then. I love the style of storytelling, focusing on specific incidents that happened at each of...Read full review »

I agree with what you concluded in the last chapter. Jews may not work as hard academically nowadays. Since Jews are considered white now, their percentage had to drop as more non whites were admitted. But my grandson was recently admitted to two Ivy League schools, waitlisted at two and denied...Read full review »

Enjoyed the earlier episodes based on the history that occurred. Later episodes especially the last one, were subject to the hosts opinions about being Jewish, Israel, and anti-Zionism. His disdain for Jews who identified differently than him was judgmental and inappropriate.

Thank you, Mark, for creating a spectacularly entertaining and, all the more, edifying podcast. I’m blown away!

The journalism displayed in this entire series is exceptional - especially the Penn episode. Mazel Tov!

I have looked forward to every episode dropping. Very informative but witty. Would love a series on the Jewish communities of the American South - so much history and drama.

Such a fascinating podcast, even for a listener who isn’t Jewish or an Ivy Leaguer. So many insights into how and why the colleges came up with Jewish quotas—esp learning about how colleges used “geographic diversity” as a way to limit the numbers of Jews and how they are still doing this today...Read full review »

Fascinating stuff. Only episode that wasn’t as informative is the Brown one (my alma Mater which was a pretty comfortable place as a secular but cultural Jew in the 80s). Would’ve loved to know how it was for non-kosher-keeping Jews in 30s thru 60s and then if the adoption of the New Curriculum...Read full review »

Besides the information about the Ivy League there is so much Jewish postwar history. Can’t wait for the next episode to drop

Ties together stories I have heard over time with a lot of new insights and stories.

Some wonderful backstory on Jews in the Ivy League. However, two criticisms, one of which, perhaps, may be resolved in the later episodes of the series. First, I find the NPR-style cadence of the narrator’s voice to be extremely irritating and artificial. Why can’t he just speak like a normal...Read full review »

I really enjoy the nuance of the storytelling and unknown history uncovered in this podcast. Amazing!

In this invaluable podcast, Mark combines the best of his experience as a journalist, a host, and a raconteur to pull the veil back on this consequential “lost” history in a riveting, suspenseful, dramatic fashion. Special credit to the tasteful and inventive music.

I’m a huge fan of Oppenheimer and the producers and this podcast is so well done. Higher education’s at a crossroads, I think, so this is timely and important. Looking forward to learning more terrible historical secrets about college admissions and the Ivies.

This is an amazing story that explains a lot about the way things were. Having relatives that attended and rejected by Ivy League schools, I’m getting a better understanding of what those times were like especially the generation before me that were skipping grades.
