Excellent podcast! That says it all. I hate running. The way it makes me feel, how sore I am for the days afterwards. I just never liked running. In my entire life of 47 years. Give me an eggshaped ball to play rugby in the forwards, you go for it! So, where does this podcast come in? I needed to do something about my fitness and weight and just going for a daily fast paced walk, just didn’t get my heart and blood pumping enough anymore. A friend of mine, who has been a long time, long distance runner for years got me onto the Couch to 5k Program. And the baseline? It worked brilliantly! So, while I didn’t start as a complete couch potato, as I was going for daily walks, I hadn’t done any cardio work for a fair time. The podcast got me from running absolutely 0 distance to 30 minutes in 6 weeks. I then got to running 5k in under 30 mins by about week 9. Now, we are nearly exactly 4 months in and I am no comfortably running distances between 5 and 8 km, 3 to 4 times a week and at varying paces. I only last week broke the 25 minute mark for 5km, which is something I have never done before. I have also run 10 km in one go for only the second time in my life and 22 years after the last one. Overall summary: The program works. Follow the podcast. And you will get there! (and there is also the C25K podcast for people who have completed the 9 weeks program and need extra challenges!)

More reviews of NHS Couch to 5K
I've been flipping between a few different couch to 5K podcasts. I started with this one, and I usually like listening to the british accent giving instructions when I run, but the music gets really annoying after awhile and the timing is off on a couple of the early workout episodes and...Read full review »

I'm 39 and not run since school but this has got me active and working at a perfect pace for the Great North Run in September. Buy yourself some good trainers, a 500ml water bottle and just do it. Each week is hard but steady so that by the end of each week you are ready to go on. I'm now...Read full review »

This is a great way to get into exercise and get motivated. Easy to follow and it doesn't feel too hard. I started this as I need to get fit. It's broken up into bursts of running in the first week and so you feel able to do it. I don't like exercise but now I plan when I can run...Read full review »
