What to do about Worry podcast review
I listened to this podcast, “What to Do About Worry” With Dr. Robert Leahy and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) on the podcast app on my iphone.I enjoyed listening to this podcast and learning about how to have an approach to be able to understand why we worry so much and the different kinds of worry that exist in our lives. In this episode, they talked about how we as human beings worry so much in our day-to-day lives. Worry comes with often negative thoughts. We often underestimate our ability to handle bad outcomes/situations. Which I thought was a very good point. It also taught me about the different kinds of worry mentioning one that I liked was productive worry. Productive worry is planning a strategy to avoid bad things happening in the future. I tend to think about my future a lot and every time I worry about something I think of a negative outcome. I should be thinking to myself how can I overcome this negative outcome? Is there anything I can do to try and avoid this outcome and if so what actions can I take right now? I relate this to my life as I was in the middle of applying to physical therapy schools. I kept thinking to myself what If I don't get into any school than what? What other careers can I choose? I was underestimating myself and making myself stressed out over a citation I had now no control over. My applications were in and now it was time for the schools to see if I would make a good fit. I ended up getting into a c couple of my top schools. This relates to the podcast when it says that 90% of the things that we worry about have positive outcomes. This is true. I find myself worrying about a lot of things, and it always ends up working out. I just have to keep reminding myself that I am capable of taking action in certain situations while others are out of my hands. This is a great teaching tool for anyone of any age to use. We so desperately sweat the process that we often forget how amazing or how hard we worked to get to the outcome.Read full review »
