We only have so much time in our life, and Erik recognizes this. He has chosen to read the great books, the books, that have influenced people for thousand of years. Allowed people to form new ideas on many subject matters. To read the current books that have not stood the test of time can be a...Read full review »

I am a woman, and I love this podcast! Erik talks about himself and his family, and if you can relate to that, then you will probably also enjoy the books he reviews favorably. I have read some books based on his recommendations and enjoyed them all. And the music is fire!

I enjoy listening and learning from these podcasts as I go on walks or mow the lawn. He reviews books that I otherwise would not read and I glean insight and wisdom from the reviews. Very nuanced and enjoyable for me. Thanks for doing these.

At first I did not like this podcast but came back and listened to more recent episodes including the most recent about Trumps book end enjoyed these episodes much more. If you don’t enjoy the early episodes skip ahead and give it another try. Looking forward to the Biden episode and whatever...Read full review »

Your « discussion » of Blood Meridian really made me worry about the students you’re responsible for. Focusing on the superficial presence of violence and rejecting any potential value in the story simply because the « underlying world view/philosophy” is something you don’t agree with/upsets...Read full review »

There is a wide variety of reading genres here that provide something for everyone. It is an opportunity to stretch oneself to read a book you might not otherwise select - and be surprised by what you might discover. Or for the more classic reader, there is plenty here to choose from. Erik’s...Read full review »

Firstly great choice of books. However I feel like too much time is spent discussing size of the book, time spent reading etc and not enough on the books main points. Would appreciate a greater focus on that.

You have a platform and because of the patriarchy we live in, for a number of reasons it’s much more difficult for a woman to write a book and when she does, it’s more difficult to get press around it and even more difficult for other humans to believe she’s smart, brilliant, even worthy of being...Read full review »

I'm sick and tired of this hustle culture and nonsenscial books recommended by dumb and dim-wit Instagram "influencers". Then, I discovered Erik's page. For the 1st time in my life, I thanked the Instagram alogrithm for recommending this awesome bookish page where a real man talks...Read full review »

The first (and last) episode I liistened to displayes a stunningl level of callow arrrogance Spewing sarcastic commentary about a book and insulting its authors after announcing that you haven't read it while relying on your co-host's shallow descsription of passages he read...Read full review »

I was hoping for less fluff about the host and more substance about the book itself. The ramble about the host is repetitive when hearing the same context over just a few episodes.

Episode #6 about Stone Soup was incompetent at best. Shoddy audio quality of co-host, very poor scholarship, and no constructive commentary. It was like suffering through some lazy report of required reading. If you guys can’t get over your critique then don’t make the episode! The briefest...Read full review »

I love the fact that the hosts a true book readers and the fact that they are documenting their journey is awesome. The idea behind the podcast is what intrigued me and I look forward to more episodes.

I listened to the episode about Peter Drucker's Effective Executive. The episode is over one hour long but it wasn't enough to cover all the ideas in this amazing book. I felt one of the hosts spent too much time 'rambling' with references to other books and his own stories and...Read full review »
