The wait for a new Gills boss was a mercifully short one, with the news coming on Tuesday that the club had appointed former Cambridge United boss Mark Bonner as the new “First-Team Manager” at Priestfield. It puts the club in the perfect position ahead of the summer transfer window, as Bonner arrives with all the time he needs to make the necessary moves to strengthen the side and build his team ahead of the 2024/25 League 2 season. But what do the Gills fans think of Bonner’s arrival? James...

The Stephen Clemence era is officially over at Gillingham Football Club. After an initial social media report from The Telegraph’s John Percy suggesting the club had sacked Clemence and Robbie Stockdale, an official statement from the club confirmed the news. It means Priestfield is set for another wild summer as we look to appoint Clemence’s successor, then start the necessary job of improving the squad ahead of next season. The big questions now are: * Were owner Brad Galinson and managing...

Just when it looked like Gillingham’s season was over, the team, aided by some favourable results elsewhere, have given themselves a late lifeline, thanks to one of their best performances of the season. Gillingham’s 3-0 win over Barrow had a ton of positives. The team kept their foot on the gas as they chased more than just the one goal – and finally got their rewards. Josh Andrews netted on his first home start for the club. Connor Mahoney rounded out the win with another well-taken effort....

With just three league games remaining in the 2023/24 League 2 season, Gillingham aren’t so much sprinting for the line, as stumbling towards it. The team sits mid-table in League 2, with our playoff hopes destroyed by a disastrous late-season run of results, and now thoughts have turned to the summer, and what the club needs to do to get us moving in the right direction. Before any summer business can be conducted, however, we still have three games to go, starting with our penultimate home...

If there was any hope left for the Gills after their 5-1 capitulation at Harrogate, it was snuffed out by Bradford City, who needed just one goal to defeat the Gills and end any serious hopes of a late playoff run for the Kent side. Explaining the reasons for our defeats has become like a broken record this season. Our complete inability to put the ball in the net – even when decent chances are created – has been our Achilles heel all season, and it was clear to see once again, as the Gills...

After our Easter Monday horror show at Harrogate, Stephen Clemence has called on his players to provide a suitable response as they head to Bradford City. The result at Harrogate left the team’s playoff hopes hanging by a thread, and only a win will do for the Gills as they look to keep their faint playoff chances alive. Ahead of the game, James is joined by a selection of fans to preview the match at Bradford, and starts to consider what changes, if any, Clemence could make to his lineup as...

It was another frustrating afternoon at Priestfield as Gillingham’s performance wasn’t so good on Good Friday. The team struggled to make anything happen against a remarkably negative, cynical Crewe side as they laboured to a drab goalless draw at ME7. Surprisingly, the afternoon ended with the Gills in the playoff places, but the overwhelming feeling was one of frustration and disappointment. But, thankfully, there’s an immediate opportunity to make amends and pick up a much-needed win as...

The Easter Bank Holiday is here, and the Gills sit just outside the League 2 playoff places with six games to go. Can they make it above that dotted line and give the club a shot at Wembley, and promotion? This weekend could go a long way to telling us whether a run at the playoffs is really possible, with Stephen Clemence’s men taking on fifth-placed Crewe Alexandra, who sit comfortably in the playoff places. It’s a huge Good Friday home game at Priestfield, and victory might just give the...

What. A. Result! With the Gills’ season potentially hanging in the balance, the team went north to fellow playoff hopefuls Morecambe and showed a truckload of spirit as they came from behind twice to eventually win 3-2. Oli Hawkins, Tim Dieng and Connor Mahoney scored the goals – each one with an assist from Morecambe’s hapless goalkeeper Archie Mair, who had a ‘mare between the sticks for the hosts – as Stephen Clemence’s men finished the day level on points with seventh-placed Crawley...

Gillingham head north for a pivotal game in the 2023/24 season as they take on fellow playoff chasers Morecambe, with the team in desperate need for points. Stephen Clemence’s men have dropped a significant number of points over recent weeks and, while they remain within striking distance of the playoff spots, the chasing pack has caught up. Now, with many of those vying for a playoff place now sitting with games in hand over the Gills, the job is clear – the Gills have to start...

After a difficult week that saw a number of his first-team squad hit with a sickness bug that forced him to cancel midweek training, Stephen Clemence shuffled the pack for the visit of strugglers Grimsby. The result was a switch to a back four, and a much more forward-thinking performance as the Gills turned in a far more positive performance than we’ve seen in recent weeks. But, despite that positivity, the same old problems came back to bite us once again. We conceded a poor goal after...

Tuesday night’s away game against fellow playoff chasers AFC Wimbledon felt like the biggest game of our season so far. And, with the stage set for the team to make a statement, they failed to deliver. The team set up negatively, conceded early and Conor Masterson got sent off before Stephen Clemence made the substitution that might define his season at Priestfield. That change, withdrawing our only out-and-out striker, Oli Hawkins, for a defensive option, Robbie McKenzie, left us with nobody...

Saturday’s home game against Tranmere saw a familiar sight for Gills fans, as the team turned in yet another sluggish first-half performance, before salvaging a point after an improved second half display. But, after seeing the team go a goal behind early, only to come back and earn a point, should we be viewing the result as a point gained, or two dropped? Owen and Matt pick the bones out of another game of two halves at Priestfield as the Gills somehow maintained their grip on the last...

Gillingham’s good spell of form hit a roadblock in Barrow on Tuesday night as the Gills fell to a 2-0 awayday defeat. But Stephen Clemence’s men get the chance to immediately bounce back with a home game against 18th-placed Tranmere Rovers. James takes the helm for our usual pre-weekend pod, and is joined by ME7 regular Matt, plus Dave and Samuel as they put Tuesday’s defeat behind them and look ahead to Tranmere at Priestfield this weekend. The Gills battled Salford, and the inclement weather conditions, to claim a well-deserved 2-0 away win at the Peninsula Stadium as Stephen Clemence’s men bounced straight back into the League 2 playoff places. Goals from Shad Ogie – his first for the Gills – and Tim Dieng secured the three points on the road in a game played on a shocker of a pitch as the weather went from drizzle to rain to a full-on hailstorm. Despite the conditions, the Gills put on a professional away performance to...

After a midweek draw with table-topping Stockport that had the fans hoping for more, Stephen Clemence’s men produced a huge performance at Priestfield to deservedly beat promotion-chasing Wrexham 1-0. Tim Dieng’s close-range finish, turning in Conor Masterson’s volleyed cross-shot following a Max Clark set piece, gave the Gills all three points in a well-contested clash at ME7 as the home side moved back into the playoff places with their first home win in 2024. Owen and James are joined by...

Priestfield Stadium is already sold out ahead of Gillingham’s home game with the glamour team of League 2, with Wrexham heading to Kent for a battle between two sides with North American owners. Wrexham have become the darlings of the football media, thanks to their Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny and their FX behind-the-scenes reality show, Welcome to Wrexham. But the more understated Gills owners, Brad and Shannon Galinson, will be hoping they’re the ones smiling at the end...

On paper, a home draw against the League 2 leaders should be a decent result. But, despite keeping Stockport County at bay at Priestfield, the overwhelming emotions among those leaving the ground were frustration and disappointment after another performance that offered little positivity over the 94 minutes. Gillingham remain one point outside the League 2 playoff places after losing out on the road to Newport County. More than 600 Gills fans made the trip to stand in an uncovered stand for 90 minutes, but the performance from the team on the pitch offered scant consolation for the travelling faithful as a sub-par display offered little positivity for those making the long trip back home from Wales to Kent. In our post-match pod, James, Harry and Alex attempt to pick the bones out of a...
