“I scrolled through a few reviews before writing this and was surprised to see how many 1 star reviews there were. Basically people give 5 star or 1 star reviews, why? I am actually more intrigued by this podcast now because she has such a polarizing effect.
What it says to me is that Kara says what she thinks (which is always beautifully articulated and well thought out). And even though it may be a waaaay different approach to thinking than what I am used to, well isn’t that the point??? If I wanted to hear someone tell me what I already believe, that wouldn’t challenge or expand my brain at all! How could I grow without trying to understand a perspective outside my own?
I guess others see it as a threat to their beliefs to hear a concept explained a different way, thus the visceral reactions and 1 star reviews.
But I think it’s incredibly brave of Kara to put herself out there with the knowledge that people will love her or hate her but she’s speaking up anyway. And frankly that’s part of why I love her podcast.
I want to expand my mind, I want to understand new ideas, or see old ideas in a new way. I don’t have to agree 100% to listen. If my mind wants to go to hating that she said something, I would use that as a red flag for an area of my life to do my own thought work. Maybe I still choose my old way to see the concept, but at least I’ve challenged and questioned myself enough to see that other people can speak about the topic differently and I can understand them without feeling threatened myself.
I LOVED her recent Q and A with health questions. The fact is science makes a lot of assumptions about cause and effect, but the medical model totally excludes the psychosocial factors. Our minds and bodies are not separate. The power of thoughts and emotions has shown over and over to be more powerful than medicine and can result in changes the medical model frankly can’t explain. It is so much simpler to separate the mind and body and say that if something physical is happening it’s from a physical cause in the body. But the newest research in neuroscience is showing that pain and disease are better understood when we look at health through a biopsychosocial approach. Stress is the biggest cause of chronic pain and disease, and that starts with guess what- your thoughts! These old thoughts need to be challenged!!!
Thank you Kara for being brave and for stretching my mind. ❤️”
