I absolutely love the authenticity from which Valerie leads her episodes and guides guests through relatable exchanges. New topics (like romance fraud) and interesting conversations helps light the spark that anything is possible. Thank you!

You ask the real questions that make this podcast always surprising and informative as a writer, there’s always a little nugget of insight, thanks Val

I’ve been listening to this amazing podcast for almost 2 years. Listening to other writers makes me feel like I’m part of the club: the invisible “writer’s club”. Somehow, I’m allowed to vicariously live through the experiences of other writers. I share in their struggle and successes. And most...Read full review »

This weekly podcast is my “me time” and it keeps me sane. I love word of the week, Valerie has such humour and warmth in the way she speaks, as if she’s just having a conversation with you as you go about your day listening. The authors featured come from such varied backgrounds and their work...Read full review »

One of my favourite writing podcasts. The host, Valerie, is very warm and engaging, and fantastic at interviewing the raft of skilled authors she has on the show. I strongly recommend to any aspiring authors out there!

This podcast has supported me and encouraged me for a couple of years now. I was trying to make the transition from 2 decades of scientific writing into the creative writing world and came across Valerie and her many talented guest writers with their helpful tips. This podcast is a recent discovery and I’ve enjoyed binge listening to many episodes over the past few days. Valerie’s interviewing style is smooth and conversational, and the authors take the lead in the way they describe their work and their latest books. I’ve loved having these inside peeps...Read full review »

I’m today’s podcast with Kerri Sackville, I learned that not all writers are novelists. Who knew? I thought all writers were aspiring novelists. You never know what gems of writing wisdom you pick up on this podcast.

Hi Valerie and Allison, thanks for the great podcasts. I had listened to a few on my saturday morning walks to the dog beach with Goliath or Golly as we like to call him and was eager to go back and listen to all the early ones. I’ve been listening to the podcast for a couple of years now. I really like the author interviews and always find something of interest, even if it’s not my genre. It’s also great to hear Australian accents, and two people who obviously like each other having a good time. What prompted me to...Read full review »

If this podcast were a book, it would be a NY Times bestseller. It has a clear, distinctive voice (two, in fact). Well-rounded main characters. A solid structure without a saggy middle (unless you ask Al, who may suggest skimming through Word of the Week). And it challenges me to think...Read full review »

This is a recent podcast discovery of mine and it’s become utterly addictive. It’s now part of my every week and (almost) every day (I’m working on eliminating the ‘almost’). Alright, so the actual INTERVIEWS are really good, and I enjoy them. But the lead ups? They go for half an hour of just those two woman chatting on about their personal lives, and it is not interesting AT ALL. I recommend skipping straight to the good interviews.

Such a fantastic podcast for writers. Every episode I learn something useful in regards to writing practices, things to consider when planning and writing a book, and also what to expect from the publishing industry. I get more out of these podcasts than I do my creative writing classes at uni.

I loved the Clare Bowditch episode but the lead up was rough. One of these women is snappy and so unkind to her cohost. Aren’t they wanting to support one another if they make a mistake ? I’ll be listening but skipping through the beginning.
