Ok?
Bunch of former Hollywood almosts and has-been’s whackin’ off their egos. And the ads. Jesus Christ, there are WAY too many ads.

Honestly hard to listen to with all the ads and how long they last

This wasn’t the worst podcast I have listened to but it’s pretty low on my list. Extremely redundant. Way too many ads. I feel like the host reminded me of somebody reliving their glory days. The tough chick act is lame.

I don’t know if these are rushed or what. They pick big topics and only focus on a small area. Most episodes miss a lot of context, are heavily repetitive and do a disservice to the story they are telling

I enjoyed learning about the LA punk scene from this podcast. As a true crime podcast, it missed the mark. I also wish Alan Sachs had hosted. Penelope was annoying and referenced her work and relationships far too often.

Such an interesting life Peter Ivers led. Such a tragic ending. Absolutely loved all the interviews with punk legends. Didn’t realize all the music Peter contributed to some of my favorite films. I’ll definitely be renewing my subscription to Night Flight. The only thing I can add is that iHeart...Read full review »

This podcast could of been decent but with 25min episodes and 10minutes of commercials and the discussions veering way too far off from what the title says. Save yourself some pain and listen to something else

The story and love everyone has for Peter emanates through the every episode! Learning about the insight of punk LA was so interesting. I also love the narrator

I really enjoyed this podcast, and you can really feel the love everyone had/has for Peter. It was also very interesting to learn about him, his influence, and the underground LA punk scene. Although it was well written, it really lacks an investigative journalistic perspective. I know they...Read full review »

Way too many. Great story

…unfortunately I have little patience for the volume of ads and pulled the plug 6 minutes into the second episode. The ads made it difficult to focus on the details, actually I never found any flow to the show. Unlistenable to me…

As a former punky-girl who spent her formative years in the mid 80s through the early 90s immersed in alternative music culture, shows and working in record stores, I was looking forward to listening to this. The only problem? The constant advertiser interruptions disrupt the flow of the story...Read full review »

Seems like a good story, too bad Iheartmedia ruined it with 10 min of ads every episode. Have to bail. Skipping awful ads every 4 min is annoying.

I was born in the 80’s but was to young to know of Peter. Thank you for sharing this story and especially paying tribute to his work.
Kweezie82 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 11/30/23
This true crime story has interesting characters. I liked the time period of Los Angeles during the early 80s in the underground punk scene. For the length of each episode there are too many ads. It would have been better if the episodes were longer and consolidated down to five.

Yah there are ads. Deal with it.

Thank you for celebrating Peter’s life and helping more people discover his music. He was an incredible person, who was dearly loved. We miss him every day.

I love everything about this show: the host, the story, especially the content warnings! It’s almost utterly destroyed by the unending commercials. So ironic considering the era it covers

This is everything I’ve ever wanted in a podcast. History, mystery, murder. I love punk, I love LA, but I missed the glory days by a generation. What amazing insight into life then and come of the key players. The hosts made this feel authentic and real. I’m going to miss listening to this one...Read full review »

A great punk song is succinct... gets to the point - no flab or filler. This podcast, on the other hand, was stretched too thin. A great/interesting topic (done really well, overall) but what could've been a lean 6 episode series they milked into 10 episodes. (Still worth a listen, for sure.)Read full review »

Excellent ingredients. YOUR voice isn’t always the best to tell the story … and just wayyy too convoluted. You didn’t want to make entertainment out of your friend’s murder but you’ll exploit him in seven (or nine?) episodes better told in one just so you can get 85 commercials in there. So sad
bv nana via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 11/27/23
It was a good story. That said, I know you have to make money, but this would have been much better as five longer-but-tighter episodes. Every episode seemed thematically slack, and couldn’t really build up a head of steam until three to four minutes of ads derailed everything.
MonkeyShines via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 11/27/23
I’ve never listened to a pod where more time was allocated to the commercials than the content. I won’t even bother finishing this one. It’s obnoxious.

With all the true crime podcast out there. I’m not sure why these people thought that 50% of the podcast needed to be ads. I thought about quitting the podcast multiple times due to this but since I am near the end of good content right now doing a home project I continued. Otherwise a somewhat...Read full review »

This is a interesting and very well done podcast. But having 23 minute episodes with five minutes being ads is so far from the message of the podcast. These are supposed to be people who are against the man and in a scene that was against capitalism. And yet this podcast is only about making...Read full review »

Could be an interesting story, but the number of ads was incredibly distracting.

The amount of ads was absurd. And based off the reviews I’ve read, I am not alone in that thought. I really loved the podcast other than that. It felt so insensitive and garish. Penelope Spheeris slays though. So stoked to hear her and hope to hear more of her in the future. With less ads.

Nothing really edgy. Quite boring esp if you were in the buz there at the time.
Rob Vale via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 11/22/23
However, it took too many episodes to really get through the meat of the story and there are far too many commercials. I would've liked to have seen longer episodes that would give more of the story episode.Read full review »

It’s hard for me to follow with so many ads. Took too long to get through relative to the content. The narrator has a nice voice and patter.

I have NEVER listened to a podcast with this many ads. Ruined the entire experience. Even Penelope Spheeris should be embarrassed by this level of sell out. A moderately cool story but not enough time to tell it.
forevernewyorker via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 11/13/23
This could have been a fascinating deep dive into a really interesting personal story and excellent examination of the NYC punk scene in the late 70s and early 80s. And I’d love to hear more from Ms Spheeris because I think she’s probably got TONS of great stories of the 80s. Unfortunately, each...Read full review »

I’m a big fan of the early LA punk scene (X, Gun Club, Weirdos, etc.), and of Penelope Spheres’ films. Spheres makes a great podcast host as well. I wanted to love this podcast, I thought it would be in the same vain as I was Never There, 80s vibes with history I can only hear about and a mystery. Instead the host is horrible her off hand remarks and opinions do not add to the story.

It feels like half the actual audio is adverts. I get it: the show was expensive to make with all this high profile personnel, but this is ridiculous. What’s more ridiculous is the ads for the very show you’re listening to… adception if you will. If you have the patience to actually listen to...Read full review »

An eye-open tale of an one of kind personality who helped open my eyes and ears. Great show about the Acid king. Too many ads that don’t match the show’s voice or feel or anything really. It’s a bummer but iHeart does this with all their shows. :( But the podcast is great!
