An excellent series. Very well done.

Without a doubt the most moving and respectful podcast I have listened to. Instead of focussing on the perpetrator, all of the care and attention went to those impacted by this terrible tragedy. A true show of a community coming together and what happens when we act from a place of love. Well...Read full review »

Really incredible and emotional. Well put together. Thinking of all the people affected by this tragedy.

But heartbreaking. On episode 5, want to listen but don’t if you see what I mean. Put together really well, one of the most memorable podcasts I’ve listed to and I’ve listened to 100’s. Can’t imagine surviving something so horrendous. These stories need to be told though. Heartbreaking for...Read full review »

Living in Sydney NSW, I had some vague recollections of this tragedy without ever really knowing the detail. Having moved to QLD in 2013, I have passed through Childers many, many times and whenever doing so have in my mind recalled the event, still without ever really knowing much detail but...Read full review »

Beautifully done. Told through the voices of the victims and those affected by this tragedy. Riveting.

Really good podcast (I always feel weird saying that when it’s about such horrible events) However, this podcast is so much more than that. It’s very victim oriented, many of the individuals there that night give their first hand accounts whilst remaining sensitive to the families involved. It is...Read full review »

Such a tragic event, so many young lives altered. You’ve told the story so well Paul. Thank you for bringing light to this 20 years on, it was a hard podcast to put down. Next time I’m passing through Childers I’ll be sure to stop in.

What an emotional story but told so well. This is a fantastic tribute to all who perished and survived this awful tragedy. Such a hard story to tell but done brilliantly. Definitely recommend a listen.

The most emotional pod I’ve listened to 😢 Very hard to listen to the stories but it will make you think about things in a different way. Great work!

I was both in admiration and heartbroken to listen to this moving and professional podcast. Well done Paul Cochrane and peace to those who live on with this memory. Childers, what an amazing community you are x

This is a great podcast for all the right reasons. The focus is on the survivors, victims, families & Childers community instead of on the perpetrator. The story is told respectfully and fully. Thank you.

This has been a weekend listen full of emotion, especially tears, but also immense pride. As an aside, I was born in Childers and had moved to Canada. On a trip back home I was given the ‘Palace Story’ to take back with me. A booklet that had been put together a few years after the fire. Not...Read full review »

The whole story is harrowing. Thanks Paul. I’m not far in but you’ve done a splendid empathetic job in the retelling. Darrens song is wonderful. I am only about halfway through the podcasts- and I am having a hard time taking a break from the emotionally moving and gut wrenching tales told by Paul. I love that we learnt about all the humans and how they were affected. The focus on the people and not the crime was a refreshing change. I remember The Childers fire happening but news stories never tell you the details. So beautifully told.

This pod tells an important , bittersweet tale of youth, adventure, loss, grief, generosity, and remembrance. The 15 lost backpackers are lovingly remembered here. Their stories and the stories of good people in a small town who rose to the moment is moving. It celebrates decency!
