Zero connection between interviewer and guests. He has no interest. Just listening to the interview with Raynor Winn- god, it was awkward. All she achieved and he asks about her foot care and reacts surprised when she says she’d do her journey again, judged her husband for being a mature student,...Read full review »

I’ve given three episodes a go and perhaps some of the others are better but I really don’t think Paxman’s blunt / hostile style translates well to podcasts. These are interrogations, not two way conversations. The simplistic combative questions such as “why do you bother” “who cares” “why should...Read full review »

I’m missing this podcast. While it is impossible for Jeremy to only interview every individual you can agree or like, it is needed back on please!

For the love of British sanity, get Michael Howard on and bottom out whether or not “He threatened to overrule...”

For some reason Paxman is being recorded through a potato. Terrible.

Can’t believe they are doing interviews over zoom, often with such bad audio microphones you can barely hear Paxman. Such a shame.

Very refreshing listening to Jeremy on a country walk. Love all the various characters and the skilful way Jeremy reveals the layers. Would like to hear him chat to a pub landlord/lady and hear their experience of lockdown

I started listening a about a month ago and have found all the interviews to be thought provoking and interesting. Hopefully they can get into the pubs ASAP as I find that a nice angle that needs to exploited more! Great work, keep the episodes coming.

Very much enjoy these podcasts from a skilled interviewer with interesting and varied guests. Lord Sumption edition was great; also interesting today with Armando Ianucci. Gone is the aggressive interrogation of Paxman’s Newsnight persona; here it is his short, direct and sometimes abrupt...Read full review »

Paxman can be very variable- at his best he is intelligent, provocative and thoughtful but on occasions he does not listen closely enough to his guests and can sometimes seem ill prepared; for example, he did not seem to have read James Rebanks’s first book when he interviewed him about his...Read full review »

Not all guests deliver but Paxman is always worth a listen. Deliberately or not, he shows up Lee Child as smug and entitled. Proof that you don’t have to be a southern Old Etonian to come across as self-satisfied.

Love your podcast only sad things is that you don’t do more podcast You are brilliant interesting interviewer and Miss you on TV Get me through lock-in even pub virtual lock-in

This man Sir Atkinson is the most tedious bore yet. Paxman your podcast is great but only with quests like Sumption, Gupta, Palin, Titania, that Balsinger? the free schools head teacher woman etc. Please choose guests with something at least half intelligent to say who can speak in full...Read full review »

David Runciman has either been deprived of sleep or was very bored by the interview. Whilst he is right about the poor state of our democracy his suggested solutions seemed rather feeble. Definitely a low energy interview.

That was a really interesting and thought provoking discussion. Thank you

Once a week is not enough! I would listen everyday if I could. Keep it up Paxo

Hmm bit mixed this one. Jeremy’s questioning ability seems to be on the wain. His last interview with Dr Rachel started off well and then just lost its way. Covid deaths on death certificates is not an accurate indicator of whether they died with Covid or from Covid. Jeremy never uttered a word,...Read full review »

The episode with Rachel Clarke is moving and profound - the most interesting and thought-provoking of conversations with a remarkable interviewee.

For someone professing to be critical of critical theory, barely a developed thought throughout the entire episode. Pluckrose touches upon the many forms (and her dismay) but fails to make a case for why an individual should be cautious before yielding to these postmodernist views. There is an...Read full review »

Shockingly poor sound levels - totally ruined the Jonathan Sumption interview, could only hear about half of it. I wonder if JP realises how confrontational his tone sounds - the same questions put more gently could make a more pleasant listen. I get the feeling JP has been quite lazy with his...Read full review »

I think Jeremy Paxman was a brilliant interrogative interviewer in the political arena. Personally I don’t believe he has translated well to this type of interview, he sounds aggressive and accusative and dare I say somewhat dismissive of the interviewee views and opinions on occasion. I have...Read full review »

A thoroughly absorbing interview - Mr Parr speaks very engagingly about a career that he clearly enjoyed and it was good that he spoke more than Jeremy Paxman.

Thoroughly enjoying these interviews...a wide range of guests with different perspectives & interesting stories to tell. Great to see the Pax doing something he enjoys, too. The sound quality sometimes needs finessing, so prepare to adjust the volume occasionally.

The worst interview I have ever heard, just sounded like he couldn’t be arsed
akid35 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 12/11/20
It brightened my day hugely. He seems happiest speaking to those who have personal journeys have led to growth. I hope he gets the chance to do more of those, and share what his own story a little more.

This podcast is supposed to be JP having a chat in the pub. It should be a cosy, thought provoking conversation. The Michael Palin episode is like that but the rest (brian cox etc) consist of JP asking questions and his guest getting very angry. It becomes one of JP’s angsty political interviews....Read full review »

Zero warmth with Brian Cox and zero interaction, Just a series of questions that could have been asked by anyone.

Was a great fan of Paxman’s objective interviewing. However, despite a decent income for years at the BBC, Paxman now slags them off in the Telegraph of all places, hardly the bastion of journalistic integrity nowadays. On this podcast specifically, Paxman’s libertarian inkling seeps through when...Read full review »

Thank you for this inspiring interview. So refreshing to hear from people that really matter.

Have to agree with many others about the production quality, its just not good enough. However, the guests and the conversation are excellent. It’s unfortunate that the ‘chat down the pub’ concept wasn’t properly tested as the face to face dimension is lost. Let’s hear more unfettered insight...Read full review »

I do wish respected broadcasters like Paxman could refrain from using expletives and tacky innuendo. How can I be expected to listen to what ought to be fascinating interviews when my children are in the room?

Delightful to hear Mr Paxman off the leash. I actually feel tipsy after I’ve listened to the episode.
Phil True via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 11/25/20
A lot of podcast interviews are sycophantic and Paxman is the opposite; his style is refreshing for that alone. You can hear his personal axes grinding underneath his questions but he is still a much better interviewer than most. He’s less confident on the more abstract subjects and it’s...Read full review »

Guy198411 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 11/24/20
Paxman is good where he’s good, but the interview quality can be inconsistent. Also sound balance vis a vis adverts can be horrendous.
Erudite127 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 11/24/20
Very interesting and very good podcast but the mixing is terrible. Adverts are far, far louder than the conversations leading to near deafness when they begin. Please take a look at this - for the sake of all our ears.

Great content but unfortunately the audio levels are all over the place. I find myself constantly turning the volume up or down.

Anyone who cares about what is happening in our country right now should listen to the interview with Lord Sumption.
MabelJoannaR via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 11/24/20
Good to hear ideas without the usual combatant interruption.I think podcasts have given us more time to listen to the argument, without the sound bite and bbc ,this is what your saying isn’t it ,journalism. Only problem is your adverts nearly deafened me, why so loud and sudden.
Davidreka via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 11/24/20
Excellent guests making intelligent points. However, amateur production and sound quality. Paxo’s unnecessarily abrasive questioning style grates but I suppose some must like it.
