Unfortunately I found the latest podcast to be ageist. I’ll check in again when the podcaster reaches 60 years old…then see how they feel. I know plenty of people still riding strong (even some racing) into their 70s! Also, the podcaster could curtail the use of the f-word to keep the “clean”...Read full review »

Highly recommend it cycling podcast. Pure science and lots of humor. Absolutely the best coaching/training podcast out there.

If coaches can talk about cellar redox, AMPC, NADH and wavelength absortion and emission (photoelectirc effect) they leave out the quandum part on purpose and talk about real training gems and most of the time in a modest real way. These guys really know and know how the rubber meets the road....Read full review »

The physiological information and how training affects the different systems gives great insight and understanding to why we train and makes the training process all the more enjoyable for it.

Best cycling podcast out there if you like the “why” of training modalities.

For me, this podcast is a bit of an acquired taste. At first I didn’t really like it and perhaps the episode I started with was not the best one (the “infamous” episode on the Rønnestad 30/15 study). But as I have listened to more episodes, I have grown to really like the podcast. The nerd-level...Read full review »

Been listening to the podcast for sometime now. It’s probably the best I’ve come across maybe just short of hiring a great coach if you are planning to DIY. Amazed by the knowledge Kolie and the team have and freely share. Lee it up guys!

The absolute best place to be told “it depends” on the interwebs!

Kolie (the host) and his sidekick, Superstrong Astrophysicist, go very deep into what the heck happens when you train your body. It is cycling focused. The backdrop of the show is this: we’re all different people with different current states, so understanding the actual physiology can...Read full review »

One of my favorite cycling podcasts for training and high performance.

Just a couple of hacks. They make assumptions of fact, that they then prove are not true, but use the assumption anyway. If you want standard FTP dogma, this is the place. Real knowledge is found elsewhere.

Great show, nice balance of deep dives into the science versus being listener-friendly and accessible. A must listen if you are interested in understanding the physiology of cycling.

I’ve lost count how many times I’ve referenced Kolie in conversations. A true deep dive into cycling physiology.

In general I love the show. However, sometime it gets really deep into microbiology and for normal people, you lose completely the connection to training and applicability

Be ready to listen several times. No other podcast goes so deep into physiology.

The latest series of episodes are painful biochemistry lectures that the host spends reminding you how smart he is and how’s he’s dumbing it down as best as he can for us. It’s not necessary and comes across as pompous. The concepts are simple and he’s basically regurgitating the material...Read full review »

The content here is a great wealth of information for endurance athletes and coaches out there. It is focused on the fundamentals of how our physiology works and its changes in response to exercise.

Je découvre ce podcast à travers la critique des études sur le fractionné type 30/15. Ça m’a beaucoup plus. Les auteurs parlent un peu vite pour les non anglophones mais la qualité des propos vaut la peine qu’on s’accroche.

It like drives me crazy that like every sentence has like one or two likes peppered throughout. I like prefer my like scientific info to like be presented in a way like you feel like the presenter isn’t like a 17 year old.

Great podcasts for cyclists, especially if you like to understand and you’re a geek about what happens in your body as you push the pedals. If not there are also episodes that are focused on training takeaways.

In my view this is the best cycling training podcast as it is extremely well presented without being too dry and serious. The length of the podcasts are about right and the technical depth is perfect. I’ve listened to them a number of times in order to fully understand and appreciate what has...Read full review »

First episode I listened to was episode #7 about base training. Was so full of wrong information I couldn’t finish (e.g. - the real benefit of training in zone 2 is it gets you to rest, training in zone 2 doesn't cause much adaptation because it is well within your ability, below the...Read full review »

Can’t recommend Empirical Cycling podcast enough. All topics discussed are so well explained, all studies looked at are spot on, etc. All while being very honest on what it’s known and what’s still to be learnt ! Don’t miss an episode. This and Marginal Gains podcast are the two I never miss an...Read full review »

The best kinds of advice and instruction show the underlying simplicity of apparently complex problems. By working from physiological first principles, these guys achieve that really well!

These guys know their stuff and they know how to make it applicable. I really like how they give the theory of different training strategies, but then follow up with specific examples of putting the theory into practice. Definitely worth the listen

Want to learn more about cycling and training/biology than you ever wanted (through the eyes of a scientist)?
